for adding a new datasource into Tomcat Server.xml, i just took backup and try with new datasource. after sometime i replaced existing server.xml & backups and restarted server. currently my server is not connection to any existing datasource and getting HTTP Status 404 error (The requested resource (application url) is not available.). if i redeploy my application means its working fine. May i know the process of this Server.xml and interact with application deployment. Just curious to know about how its working and why its not working while i am replaced with backup server.xml.

Unless you are doing advanced Tomcat configuration, you should not be modifying either or server.xml

If you want to set up a JDBC datasource connection pool, you can do that in a Tomcat Context, either as an XML file under TOMCAT_HOME/conf/Catalina/localhost or as a META-INF/context.xml file within the webapp's WAR.
