Hello Everyone,

I passed the OCA exam with 91% score yesterday, an effort of last few months comes to a good end at the Year End.

I’ve been studying Java part-time for the last 6 months plus following this wonderful forum to read about the ranchers experiences and getting help from seniors especially Roel!.

Resources used

• OCA/OCP Java SE 7 Programmer I & II Study Guide by Kathy Sierra & Bert Bates [Read 3 times]
• Mala Gupta’s OCA Java SE 7 Programmer I Certification Guide [ only used the mock test]
• Enthuware Mock Exams OCA SE7

My Journey:

• First thing I done, I registered myself on the https://coderanch.com in May 2015.
• After going through various post. I decided to go for OCA 7 first and added this to my 2015 goals.
• Started preparation from the study guide of K&B and after around 3 months I purchased the Enthuware mock exams.
• When I felt I was ready for the exam (just feelings), took few practice tests from mock exams and instantly realized that things are far away …………
• Now, again pick the K&B book and read it thoroughly chapter by chapter and going through the end chapters self-tests.
• This second shot of K&B was really helpful in getting concepts much clearer, the things I was assuming earlier, now I start understanding them to some extend like the encapsulation of the mutable classes.
• Unfortunately, due to some reasons I was not able to study for a gap of almost two months.
• As the year end approaching, I just make another leap of faith and took K&B for third time, re-read it and took self-test again.
• The self-test of K&B are not enough as I had seen those questions many times now.So, my 2nd option was Mala Gupta book, I took the full mock exam (chapter 8) of this book and scored 80%, which really raised my hope.
• With only few days in my pocket (as December started), I took the Standard mock exams of Enthuware and here are the results:

My Enthuware Test Scores:

Test 1 - Dec 7: 73%
Test 2 - Dec 11: 73%
Test 3 - Dec 12: 80%
Test 4 - Dec 13: 74%
Test 5 - Dec 17: 76%
Test 6 – Dec 18: 93%
Last Day Test – Dec 26: 79%

Finally, I registered for the exam on Dec 28.

During exam, I started slowly so in the first hour I only manage to cover first 25 questions but at the end I was able to complete the exam with few seconds remaining. I didn’t mark many questions for review (only 2) and didn’t get time to review them as well so just finish the exam.

My final score is:

(OCA Exam – Dec 28: 91%)

Thankful note:
Lastly, I just want to thank all the ranchers who are contributing to this forum and helping others on the way to success.I would like to make a special thanks to Roel and Suhasini for their help.

Stay blessed. Happy New Year and Good Luck to all!!

Hi Kaleem,

Congratulations champion! Great achievement Now it's time to relax a bit and have a (well-deserved) (or 2 or 3). And if you want to spoil yourself have a Belgian beer, our beers are the best of the world

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Other ranchers will definitely benefit! Have a cow!

Don't forget to add your name to the OcajpWallOfFame!
