I need to know,whether i can build a javamail application(ie sending and receiving mails through smtp and imap)using weblogic7.0 alone and without the use of mailserver?
If yes then i had tried one application but,on encounter of Transport.send(message) an exception is thrown on the server "exception is:
class javax.mail.MessagingException: Could not connect to SMTP host:mc-1 port: 25;
mc-1 is my machine name.

WebLogic does not provide mail server functionality. See this link for more information: Using JavaMail with WebLogic Server Applications.
In the future, you will get a better response by directing WebLogic specific questions to the WebLogic Forum.

You beat me to it - that's exactly what I would have said if I weren't in GMT timezone.
Moving to the WebLogic forum...

Hi Anand ,
As Chris stated Weblogic does not provide a "mail Server". You need to have access to a mail server to send and receive mails.
For testing/development purposes I have installed this free mail server available at http://www.postcastserver.com/
The apache foundation also provides a free mail server called James. This is available at
http://jakarta.apache.org/
Check it out.
