Thanks, Meenakshi.

This title follows the same style. In this version, I have added topics, which were not included in the OCA Java ver 7, like Date/Time API, lambdas and wrapper classes. It also includes changes in the Java language like inclusion of default methods in an interface.

I hope this title helps you to prepare well for the 1Z0-808 certification.

With much respect,
Mala

Hi Mala,

My assumption is , with Java SE 8 The more focus area would be on the Lambda as that is considered to be a major addition to the language.
With that being said, it is not like every other language features or improvements or a structural changes that we see from version to version
This is a bold shift in the approach and understanding in a programming language's features.

From the standpoint of some one like me who has no experience in the functional programming ,what would be your advice as to how one
can go about learning this new feature let alone cracking the certification

I am sure you are discussing this topic in detail as a Topic in itself before getting in to the certification aspects of it.

Thanks

Hi Meenakshi -

It took me a while to scroll to the bottom and read your message. AT first, I thought you have posted a joke, which includes a lot of blank space and then a punch line at the end :-D

Now to answer your question:

You are right in stating that Java SE 8 includes a lot of changes in the style and approach.

But OCA Java SE 8 exam doesn't include a lot of Java SE 8 features related to functional style programming. They are covered in OCP Java SE 8 exam.

For my OCA 8 book, I don't assume that a reader is familiar with either the functional style programming or other new Java 8 features. For example, for lambdas, the book doesn't start this topic by diving into its examples; it starts with the need to use lambdas, their syntax and how to use them - using multiple code examples.

With much respect,
Mala
