Hi,

Today I passed 1Z0-810 (Upgrade Java SE 7 to Java SE 8 OCP Programmer exam) with 80% marks (though I feel it is less then I expected).

I did 2 months (May & Jun) of hard study for achieving this with my regular office hours. I work 5 days a weeks but sometimes due to release schedule I also had to work over weekends and late nights so it was really challenging to find time for studying regularly.

Things I studied for preparing for exam were:
1. OCA Java SE 8 Programmer I Exam Guide (Exams 1Z0-808) - By: Kathy Sierra; Bert Bates
2. OCA: Oracle Certified Associate Java SE 8 Programmer I Study Guide: Exam 1Z0-808 - By: Jeanne Boyarsky; Scott Selikoff
3. Java 8 in Action: Lambdas, streams, and functional-style programming - By: Raoul-Gabriel Urma, Mario Fusco, and Alan Mycroft (read Twice)
4. Live Lessons: Java 8 Lambda Expressions and Streams - By: Marty Hall (With all exercises for each chapter)
5. Live Lessons: Core Java - By: Cay S. Horstmann (Only selected chapters)
6. OCA/OCP Java SE 7 Programmer I & II Study Guide (Exams 1Z0-803 & 1Z0-804) - by Kathy Sierra (Only selected chapters)
7. Exam 1Z0-810: Upgrade Java SE 7 to Java SE 8 OCP Programmer Study Guide - By Mikalai Zaikin (With Quiz)
8. EnthuWare 3 tests for Upgrade To SE 8 From SE 7 1Z0-810

Out of all above three things which really helped me a lot in preparation were (in order of priority 1 being highest):
1. Live Lessons (Java 8 Lambda Expressions and Streams) by Marty Hall. Marty you rock and I really liked your car pic with James
2. Exam 1Z0-810: Upgrade Java SE 7 to Java SE 8 OCP Programmer Study Guide - By Mikalai Zaikin (With Quiz). This was really helpful for revising stuff on last day.
3. EnthuWare 3 tests for Upgrade To SE 8 From SE 7 1Z0-810. These were also good to get some practice before going to real exam.

Thanks all for you material and support. And Kudo to coderanch forum for getting information up to date. Thanks Again...!!!

Hi Manoj,

Congratulations champion! Great achievement Now it's time to relax a bit and have a (well-deserved) (or 2 or 3). And if you want to spoil yourself have a Belgian beer, our beers are the best of the world

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Other ranchers will definitely benefit! Have a cow!

Don't forget to add your name to the OcpjpWallOfFame!

Kind regards,

Thanks Jeanne, Roel & Dana.

@ Jeanne: Looks like there is no option to edit post once submitted. I forgot to mention your other books apart from OCA. They were also really helpful OCP and practice tests books. I haven't read them fully but yeah few chapters and few tests from practice tests books. They were really awesome and I also followed errata page.

@ Roel: Thanks for your suggestion I noted it down. I'm big fan of good quality beers and Belgian beer is definitely next.

Congratulation for reach the goal. I´m studying for 1Z0-808 but I´m working  and I think is difficult study and work the same time. I mean, study constantly
Can you tell me how organize my time ? How many hours you study per day ( weekday and Weekend).

Thank you
