Ever now and then I see a user, Bear Bibeault, as modified a posting. When Bear Bibeault there is usually see something like
This message was edited 2 times. Last update was at 2 hours ago by Bear Bibeault (only subject was edited)
However when other people edit postings it only says something like
This message was edited 2 times. Last update was at 2 hours ago by UserName
Notice the reason for editing is not there.

I know that Bear Bibeault has super powers on this site, but maybe I'm missing something.
I do have enough cows to edit my own posts, so in the standard editor, which most people see if there a place to supply a reason why the posted was edited?
Or is this only someone who has the correct super powers such as Bear Bibeault can do.

You can see exactly what I'm talking about here
https://coderanch.com/t/683664/certification/understand-code-snippet

If this is something, which is in the standard editor then where is it?
By the way, most of the time when I do edit my posts I do it to correct a small mistake e.g. typo or forgetting a word like "is".

No, no matter who edits a post, there's no special place to put the reason for editing. I know what you mean, on other forums where I'm active it does let you provide a reason. And like you say, usually the reason is to correct a typo or an omission or something innocuous. But not on this forum -- you could post again to clarify why you edited a post, or you could include the reason in the edited post itself, I suppose.

As for the "(only subject was edited)", that's a special case which is built into the system. Even we moderators can't put in things like that on our own.

Thanks for the quick response Paul.

So, it was a simple question and now it's been answered.

I'm glad it was an answerable simple question. People tend to believe that simple questions have simple answers, even in the face of simple questions like "Why is there something and not nothing?" Anyway, thanks for posting.

For the record , when I edit a subject it's usually to correct a typo that would affect the topic coming up in a search, or because a newcomer to the forum used a topic like "I have a question" which also doesn't help with topic search and isn't helpful for a topic showing up in the related topic list.

That's great Bear Bibeault, I'm glad that you are volunteering your time and making this site better for all that use it.

For the record, I was not trying to get your or any one else in trouble is anyway.
I was trying to become a better user of this site by learning how to use the tools provided by this site.

I know that it is thanks to Bear Bibeault and the countless other people who give up their own personal time to try to enhance this site for all.
