Would you like to work in a role delivering with new cutting edge technologies delivering support to the Royal Navy? We currently have a vacancy for a Consultant Engineer- Software Systems based in Ash Vale.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work within a team who are creating a shared computing environment to host all IT for submarines, moving away from bespoke pieces of kit which has previously been designed for submarines

The role will also offer you the offer to join an area of the business which has a wealth of growth and can offer career development.

Your main responsibilities as a Consultant Engineer- Software Systems will involve:

Understanding the decomposition of requirements from customers and being able to successfully manage and deliver software products

Developing software architectures

Working effectively as part of a team of engineers to design, develop, test, document, configure and deliver solutions

Providing leadership and mentoring to subordinate team members

Preparing and presenting design review material at product design and phase reviews to allow progression through the engineering lifecycle

Technical input to project management team to produce robust cost estimates, risks and issues and detailed work package descriptions

Providing on-going development of robust software development lifecycle processes and procedures including regular reviews to ensure these are optimised to deliver continuous improvement

Your skills and qualifications must include:

Excellent software engineering skills with experience in C/C++, C# or equivalent second-generation languages
A sound understanding of product development lifecycles
UML experience
Practical experience of developing software on Unix based operating systems
Experience of scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, Bourne or similar
Experience of interfacing software with hardware
A Good understanding of TCP/IP networking, experience of socket programming using TCP and UDP

Ideally your skills and qualifications will also include:

Experience of Linux-based and Windows application development with an awareness of software verification
Working knowledge of JIRA, Git, Subversion, Dimension CM or similar
Exposure to functional safety for software-related systems
