how to check if a certain value is in integer or in long format ?

ints and longs are not formats, they're data types. You don't need to check that values are of these data types, the compiler does that for you.

What causes you to ask this question? What are you trying to achieve?

Is there a way to distinguish longs and ints at runtime? I never thought there was.
