We currently have a number of technical and managerial opportunities for engineers to join this dynamic and innovative team, ranging from direct entry, through to technical lead. As a Systems Engineer, you will work in a cross cutting, multi-disciplined role, with a holistic engineering view, focussing on the bigger picture and bridging the gaps between the disciplines (such as software, electronics and mechanical) by using your knowledge of the system to provide appropriate information to each area. You will be involved in all phases of the lifecycle from concept design, development, integration and testing through to formal release to the customer and working as part of a team of experienced, passionate and innovative engineers creating world-leading control and display systems.

The systems role will provide you with the opportunity to work within an extremely exciting area. We encourage continuous development at all levels and encourage our engineers to trial innovative processes and tools when designing products for the world’s most advanced commercial and military fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft. Exposure to the customer and end user, as well as working alongside like-minded engineers, makes a rewarding environment at all levels.

Systems Engineer – key responsibilities:

• Our systems engineers are responsible for understanding our customers’ challenging needs and specifying their requirements.
• Developing complex system architectures and sub-systems to satisfy these needs.
• Integrating electronic, mechanical, optical and software sub-systems to provide a fully operating system and ensure verification testing proves that the customer needs will be consistently met in varying and challenging environmental conditions that avionic equipment must operate in.
• Those new to systems engineering will gain a broad range of exposure to systems engineering processes and engineering lifecycle activities, from concept through to delivery. Developing understanding of safety critical systems, expanding your problem solving and team working skills and increasing your ability to make sound technical decisions.

Systems Engineer – essential skills:

• Degree or equivalent in a Scientific/Engineering subject such as: Systems, Electronic or Software Engineering, Physics or Maths (with some engineering application)
• Theoretical or practical engineering skills and knowledge

Experienced Systems Engineers/Team Lead roles – key responsibilities:

• Our experienced engineers take responsibility and accountability for their technical work packages and are key to the guidance, coaching and development of our less experienced engineers.
• They liaise with customers to solve technical issues, understand the design requirements for safety critical systems, support strategic decision making and also perform design review assessments on other projects.
• Our team lead roles enable responsibility for the systems activity to be taken across a project for cost account management, people management and development while still supporting the technical aspects of the role.
• Influencing the direction of future projects, driving process improvements in for new systems development and assessing and trialling the tools and processes for future use are also a key part of this role.

Experienced Systems Engineers/Team Lead roles – essential skills:

• Experienced engineers should be able to demonstrate a broad understanding of systems engineering processes and lifecycle activities in developing electronic and/or software-based designs or control systems in high integrity environments.
• They should be able to demonstrate excellent problem solving and team working skills, an ability to achieve high levels of productivity, and an ability to make sound technical decisions
• Experience in requirements and design analysis, modelling and simulation, using tools such as DOORS, Simulink, design notations such as SysML and having practical experience of integrating and testing software and/or electronic hardware systems will be advantageous. We also welcome engineers with expertise in ensuring safety requirements are fulfilled throughout the lifecycle.
• We have specific opportunities in safety systems engineering for those with experience and knowledge in ARP 4754 and/or MIL-STD-882 processes. To fulfil the specialist safety roles experience in generating safety plans, safety cases, fault tree analysis and hazard logs is required. Understanding of
• FMEA/FMECA and/or Common Mode Analysis, DO-178 or DO-254 would also be beneficial.

What we are looking for in you:

We value engineers who can operate effectively and cooperatively in both small and large teams, be able to communicate effectively across engineering disciplines and with those who are not engineers. We encourage you to plan your own work, be able to understand budget and schedule constraints, and accurately report progress right from the start and take control of these early in your career. Our engineers relish challenges, challenge others constructively, are proactive in looking for opportunities, demonstrate a positive attitude, support team members and gain a wide breadth of experience through supporting multiple projects types.

We have systems engineers from many engineering, scientific and mathematical backgrounds, so if you want to see across the product lifecycle and see the bigger picture then a role in Systems Engineering is for you.

Location: Rochester

Salary: Competitive – dependent on experience

Benefits: Our employees receive an excellent benefits package which includes a competitive pension scheme, enhanced annual leave allowance and a Company contributed Share Incentive Plan. We also offer a range of additional benefits such as flexible working, an employee assistance programme, childcare vouchers, Cycle2work and many local and national employee discounts.
