I've been looking at everyone's experience and test material on CodeRanch since I started looking into taking the exam. Now I will share my experience and prep materials used. First I want to start off by giving you a little of my background. I did android development professionally for about 2 years and for the last 2 years I've been doing network administration work. I have been developing some apps through freelancer for the last 2 years. Let me start off by saying, if you have been consistently programming for 2 years or more on a professional level then this test should be fairly easy for you to clear, just by doing 3-6 mock exams.

Lets get into my experience and prep materials.

Although I took the 1Z0-808 I had already purchased the Java 7 SE book a couple years back.

OCA Java SE 7 Programmer I Certification Guide: Prepare for the 1ZO-803 exam  - https://www.amazon.com/OCA-Java-Programmer-Certification-Guide/dp/1617291048/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1539741079&sr=8-4&keywords=java+se+7

OCA: Oracle Certified Associate Java SE 8 Programmer I Study Guide: Exam 1Z0-808 - https://www.amazon.com/OCA-Certified-Associate-Programmer-1Z0-808/dp/1118957407/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1539741185&sr=8-3&keywords=java+se+8

Youtube Videos on subjects I didn't grasp right away

I would say out of these materials the Guide by Mala Gupta was the GREAT. There is a newer one for SE 8 so I would recommend that so you don't have to combine materials. It is easy to retain and fun to read. I didn't read every page in the book but I would say I read about 70% and did almost all of the chapter quizzes which helped a lot.  I would recommend reading only the subjects you don't already know that well and brush up on the subjects you do know by taking the Enthuware mocks. I also recommend taking a mock before you start anything to see your weak areas. If you are a seasoned programmer this test will probably be a piece of cake as this is just the very basic knowledge to programming. If your not too fond of the Lambda's don't be scared I got maybe 1 or 2 questions on that everything else is the basic things you should already know about Java. I finished with about 40mins left on the clock to look over any answers I wasn't sure about. If you are brand new to Java then I recommend reading one of the 2 books listed above and doing 3-6 mocks along with some youtube videos and you should be fine! I thought the test was pretty straight forward and not tricky.

Well I just thought I should share my experience and materials as CodeRanch helped me prepare for the test. By the way it took me about 2.5 weeks to study for the Exam. Good luck to all new comers & congrats to all who cleared as well!
