It is. Start by having a look at the contents and “look inside”, as shown in the Amazon link from the welcome thread.
It explains why Java8 was developed, and gives an intriduction to λs Streams and functional features. Then you get explanations of the new threading possibilities. It explains completable future and also some of the things that can go wrong when you are threading. If you really want to know about functional programming, consider Pierre‑Yves Saumont's book Functional Programming in Java.
The book is clearly written and shows you examples of the use of each of those features, starting simple so you can learn λs/Streams even if you have never seen them before. As I said here, it isn't a beginner's book.


Would love to get hands on a copy ;-)
