I have an application running on WAS 4.0 on Solaris. I wrote a Makefile to build the .ear file. The goal is to deploy this .ear on a new application server automatically. WSCP takes time to learn. So, I am trying to avoid it. Hopefully, I can export the configuration of my current machine to an XML file. On the new machine, the XML file will be imported to configure the application server. Did somebody do this before? I don't know what will happen to .ear file. Should I put it in installedApps, and the new application server will pick it up? I image things, such as Data Source, Database Driver will work fine. Am I in the right track? Jun Hong

If you are talking about using XMLConfig -- yes, it will work but only so far. It can create datasources, etc. as you describe, but there are other things it can't do. The whole answer is that no, you are not on the right track. You need to buckle down and learn WSCP. It's not that hard, really! WSCP has capabilities that XMLConfig doesn't.
