I invented the summer camp program that I asked a lot of questions about, and that's what I do outside of working with Java.  One of the camps I am working at this summer has a tradition where you are known by a nickname other than your own name because it keeps a mysterious image of you, and also with the exception of me, most of the counselors just got out of high school within the last couple years, and they get kind of tired of complaints from over-protective parents who didn't like a sarcastic remark a counselor posted on twitter or another site, so they just don't post or print our real names on anything.

I still haven't come up with a name yet, and I was wondering if anyone had a catchy nickname related to Java, or general programming that might be a cool camp name.

Please don't suggest Garbage Collector, as I don't want that to be my job at camp.

Way back in ancient history, Java had a mascot named "Duke". I haven't seen Duke for years but I did some googling and apparently Duke is alive and well. Here's a link about Duke, the Java Mascot.

I don't know whether it's catchy or cool but there it is. Do you lose coolness points if you have to explain your camp name?

How about Joshua Bloch?

If you don't want garbage collector, how about executor?  As in executor service

Most people don't like it if you assume their name as your own. I strongly advise against doing this.

If you want to pay homage to him, you could take a name like "Click'n'Hack" or "Java Puzzler".

How about "Brace Face" or "Double Slash"? Not super specific to Java though.

Java class files start with the magic value 0xCAFEBABE, so why not a fun variation on "Caffé/Coffee Babe/Boy". Or you can just use the magic string "0xCAFEBABE" itself.

If you asked Avril Lavigne, she would proably suggest Coder Boi.

Heh.  Just realized this place doesn't allow nicknames, just real names.  On all the other forums I frequent my username is Snotnose.

Oak, Sparkler, Pumpkin, Abigail, Brutus, Chelsea, Playground, Cricket, Kestrel, Ladybird, Merlin, Hopper, Mantis, Tiger, Mustang, Dolphin, Spider.
Seems that major releases were (mostly) named after animals/birds and minor bugfixes after [bug eating] insects.
