WS Advanced Edition 4.0.3 and session storage

We're using Advanced Edition of websphere but have no plans of clustering any time in the future. I was wondering where does WS store session information by default. If it stores that in the database, is there any way to prevent that?

By default it's stored in memory in the application server with no clustering support unless you turn it on.
