Ther are 2 common ways, one of which is generally manual and one of which is automatic.
To manually import data, export the spreadsheet to a CSV-format file. I presume that SQL Server can import CSV-formatted data, although I haven't bothered to check. It's a common database feature.
To automatically import data one would use an ETL utility. ETL stands for Extract, Transform and Load, which is what you want to do. Talend and Hitachi Pentaho DI are ETL applications. Basically, an ETL program consists of modules that you wire together - often using a GUI design tool - to create a pipeline that in your case would start from the spreadsheet and end with a database table load operation.
The secret of how to be miserable is to constantly expect things are going to happen the way that they are "supposed" to happen.
You can have faith, which carries the understanding that you may be disappointed. Then there's being a willfully-blind idiot, which virtually guarantees it.
