Hi All,
Brand new here. I just started reading Scott and Jeanne's OCP Complete Study Guide this morning. I am curious how long it took you to study and take the OCP exam. I did a search on the forum and saw a few examples of people taking 9-10 months, but just curious about others to get an idea of a reasonable goal to set for myself. I arbitrarily set a goal of November 19th, 2021 to take the exam, which is 158 days from today. What do you think? I do not have any professional experience with Java. I have a fair understanding of programming basics in general and am not a complete newbie to Java, just no real world experience. My plan is to study a couple hours everyday. How long do you think is reasonable amount of time to prep for this exam?

Hi Jeremy, welcome to the ranch.

It really depends on how much time you can give to study for the exam, and how much practice you want to do. Since you mentioned you can spend a couple of hours study daily, I guess you'll be able to complete the book in a couple of months. Then you can do lots of mock exams. I studied for about 5-6 months for my own SCJP certification (1-2 hours study a day), including doing mocks for almost 2 months.
