Hi,

I'm not sure it's allowed to post this here, sorry if it's not :)

I'm conducting an experiment to improve code review and I need participants with some Java knowledge. It would be great if you could take part in the experiment: http://campanella.ifi.uzh.ch

As an appreciation token, we will donate 5 USD to a non-profit organization on your behalf!

Thank you!

Welcome to the Ranch

Please supply more information of what the experiment is all about; I am afraid the website you quoted wasn't at all informative.

Actual code review takes only a few minutes; follow-on survey around 5 minutes.

Hi! The instruction page gives more information but it’s only the second page of the experiment ^^
It is a code review task of a Java code change that has two Java files. We ask participants to focus on possible security issues during the code review. After they finish the code review, we have a survey with some questions about their background and practices to better understand our results. All data is anonymous!
Thanks!

I'm using Chrome on iPad and the "I have completed the code review" button doesn't seem to do anything. Is this form written for a specific browser? I'll try with another browser and report back.

Hi! Thanks for doing the experiment!! It should work with any browser but I haven't tested on tablets. I'll check it now. Thanks for reporting!

I tried with Aloha browser and I don't see the frame with the code review checklist questions.

I tried with Safari browser and I got to the end of the survey and had the same issue with completing the survey. The page I'm stuck is the Software Vulnerabilities page in the survey. Pressing the next button doesn't do anything.

Hi, indeed on ipad it's not working. Sorry. I tried on Safari with a macOS Catalina 10.15 and was able to successfully finish the experiment. Can you forward the the Software vulnerabilities html to my email (larissa@ifi.uzh.ch)? I would like to debug it and see if the combination of your replies triggered a bug.

Thanks!

Sorry, I already closed the browser in frustration. I'll try again later on my Mac.

Hei, thanks about the feedback. But do you mind erasing/editing your comment if possible just to not give possible future participants any hints on the code and checklist? this might influence their review and therefore our results. i'll incorporate your suggestion to the checklist item

I tried it again on my Mac using Safari (Version 14.1.1) and Chrome (Version 92.0.4515.107) I could not see the checklist in either of them.

I suggest you test this with all the most commonly-used browsers on various devices and work out the usability issues before asking more people to participate.

Some participants are assigned to a checklist and some aren't, s they do the code review without the checklist support. This is correct. You have two participants ids because you used two devices.
