Year 2001 - I completed my Sun Certified Java programmer certification for Java 1.2. No training and directly this certification. Year 2011- Java Enterprise Architect certification ...Then Sun Microsystem was acquired by Oracle.
Fast forward my son is in high school and already got two python certifications. He knows Java script, python and Java.
Can he directly go for OCPJP(programmer certification) or he has to first do the associate level exam?
Is there any training requirement for these certifications now?

Please suggest books also. Thanks in advance.

He has two options:
1. Go for OCP Java 11 exam directly.
2. Go for OCA Java 8 and then OCP Java 8.
Please see this article for details.

Pros and cons for each approach are discussed here.

HTH,
Paul.

Thanks.
As per this  https://education.oracle.com/oracle-certified-associate-java-se-8-programmer/trackp_333 - one can still go for the associate exam. Is there any training required? or in other words Oracle forcing training to make money?

No, you don't need to purchase the training. Anyone can take the exam.

Thanks
Based on the information you provided I feel that my son should prepare for "OCP Java 11 Developer certification"/Exam # 1Z0-819
But where are the books to prepare for this?

This seems to be not right for this:
https://www.amazon.com/OCP-Java-Developer-Complete-Certication/dp/1119784743

Though they are claiming:
NOTE: After the release of the Developer Complete Study Guide, Oracle completely revamped the Java SE 11 certification by retiring Exams 1Z0-815 and 1Z0-816. You're now only required to pass the new Exam 1Z0-819. The Upgrade Exam 1Z0-817 remains the same. Even though the exams have changed, the same topics are covered (but are presented in a different order). You can rest assured, however, that this Certification Kit provides complete coverage of the Java SE 11 certification exam.

There is a practice tests:
https://www.amazon.com/Certified-Professional-Developer-Complete-Practice/dp/1119696135

Then I went thru this link:

Eventually the authors themselves are going to be in to reply, but it is my understanding that the only work on future books yet to come will be targeting the Java SE 17 exams, which don't even exist yet.

The book set you referenced, with the addenda that you also referenced, is the latest and greatest in printed prep materials by the authors in question (I am studying from that, tho I don't own their mock exams book yet).

Deceptively low price, but the Enthuware mock exams seem to have many customers who swear by them after they help them pass the tests:
https://enthuware.com/java-certification-mock-exams/oracle-certified-professional/ocp-java-11-exam-1z0-819

That's afterwards.  The tests and questions are tricky enough that they may be swearing AT them until they get thru with high enough scores.  Not their fault, they are trying to help us pass, hence difficult and tricky questions to prepare us.

I haven't used those mock exams yet, but I would describe their (Enthuware's) responsiveness level to both questions and complaints about their material as "VERY HIGH", which is personally quite important to me.

There are also other sources of mock exams, some of the free ones are riddled with errors, have serious rendering problems or are quite out of data with respect to the material on the latest exams.

Trivia point: Altho virtually every mock exam book I have seen steers users to this forum, I started spending so much time here because there is so much material of questionable value floating around out there, which had frustrated and confused me.  You can consider additional options, most of which are described on this site, but with my additional recommendation you now have the primary set of materials I am personally using to prepare from.

Hi . Missed this a month ago. Yes, the 815/816 is the book for the 819. It's roughly the same material.

Jeanne can you tell me what the book bundle is all about - I think one is the study book and another one is tests. If somebody buys the study guide do they get access to the tests via online?

The study guides include online access to their own bunch of questions, a good number, both specific ones at the end of each chapter, the same ones as in the book, plus a pre-assessment for before you read the book(s) and some bonus mock tests.  I am not sure what the level of overlap is in terms of specific questions, I believe it is low or none, tho.

Sharma,
The bundle includes
  • Complete Study Guide (formerly the 815/816 books). For this the online materials are the questions from the book plus four mock exams that are 100% unique from what is in the book
  • Practice Tests Book. For this, the online materials match the practice tests book. However, all questions in the practice tests book are 100% unique from the Complete Study Guide and the online mocks that go with it

@Jeanne Boyarsky thanks a lot for your response.

Could you please share with the me link for this bundle?

    Also few more questions:
    1. Does this bundle going to work for the latest Java certification which is not going to expire in next one year?
    2. Is there any new or revised edition coming from your side for this java certification? If yes, please let me know.

    Amazon link for bundle

The latest Java certification is not going to expire in the next year. The Java 8 exam still exists so there is no reason to expect the Java 11 exam to go away so quickly. The link I provided is for the Java 11 exam. (815/16 originally, now 819)

Oracle has announced an updated cert yet. I expect they will for Java 17 since it is a LTS edition. I recommend not waiting. There are many things that need to happen between Oracle's announcement of an exam and a book existing for it.
