I am a moderator/question answerer  (perhaps the only one) on another java programming forum and will be away for 6 weeks.  I was looking for someone to sit-in for me while I am gone.  There isn't a lot of traffic there and a visit once or twice a day should handle it.  One problem with the site is I have not been able to have it send me email notifications for new posts.  I am not an administrator and am not be able to give users any special privileges.  As moderator I can edit any posts, delete or hide them and ban users.   I have often recommended this site (coderanch) for OPs when their question is past my knowledge.
Please PM me for the site's URL and any more details you would like.

Thanks,
Norm

Spammers are everywhere. Fortunately we manage to keep them under control here, so you mostly won't see them.

Norm posted last about 4 months ago, but apparently never bothered to remove vacation status. He also refers to his occupational specialities in the past tense

The Ranch has various automated mechanisms that block a lot of would-be spammers, but that's also one of the moderator duties, so we all suppress the stuff that leaks through as soon as we see it — usually in no more than a few hours at most.

A recent plague has been "AI spam", where "noise posts" appear apparently to gain enough creds to then post the actual adversing. We've been working on ways to catch that stuff.

Incidentally, there's "spam" and then there's SPAM. If someone is doing a little harmless self-promotion or plugging what we thinks is a worthwhile product/vendor, we may let it go. If it's more egregious, we come down on them hard.

It appears Norm isn't around or isn't active.

Since the Ranch Office isn't the appropriate place to discuss the moderation of other websites, I'm closing this topic.
