Today, Oracle announced the objectives for the new Java 17 (1ZO-829) exam. A few things to read

  • Scott's announcement of our Java 17 book - available for pre-order
  • Table comparing Java 11 and 17 exams
  • CodeRanch Java 17 FAQ page - a little thin now since the exam is so new. But will get fleshed out over time

Looks like Oracle is on top of the things as far as Java certification is concerned. Good thing they announced the topics well(?) before releasing the new exam.

    Congratulations on your new books

Yeah. Not quite as good as having a beta, but far better than nothing

Thanks! Good luck on your new mocks. (I assume you are updating them)

There's not at this time. I wouldn't expect one though. The Java 11 upgrade existed because there were two exams to get certified at the beginning. Now that there is only one, people might as well take the "main" exam.

The exam 1ZO 829 is still shown as coming soon although it is allowing me to add it to the cart. I guess it does not mean it is available to schedule. Is there some clarity from Oracle when it is available to schedule?
Anyone else has done this exam already (or planning to do soon)

I *think* what web site proposes is to buy you voucher now (i.e. pay for the exam now) and take it later (i.e. when the exam will be released)

You are probably right but i cannot imagine who will want to do that especially because there's no pre booking discount or a limited number of vouchers. But I'm not here to question the methods adopted by Oracle. I was surprised because I almost bought it till someone pointed out i cannot schedule an exam.

Is there any clarity on when they are going to make it available? I put some effort to prepare and if it's going to take more than a month i can consider that as sunken cost and move on. Otherwise i will hold the information in my head. "Coming soon" is not clear and especially hard on me because I didn't see it. Also because I heard people already wrote it.

Do we know when the Java 8 Programmer II exam will be removed? I kept postponing it for over a year now and i'm afraid i won't have time to take it now. Thank you!

The short answer: We don't know
No offical representatives of Oracle here.
I would guess (don't ask, why) that Java 8 exams will be available at least till summer.
P.S. If you have a question, please open new thread, do not add to the thread which dedicated to different topic (this thread dedicated Java 17 exam).

The certification is officially launched. You can visit the cert page at Oracle here.
