Oracle changed the exam length and number of questions on a few exams. For the first three, the number of minutes to questions ratio remains unchanged. For all, the passing score remains unchanged. The Java EE 7 exam gives you 10 more minutes so this was probably a change for consistency.
ExamChanges
Java 8 OCA (808)2.5 hours -> 2 hours, 70 -> 56 questions
Java 8 OCP (809)2.5 hours -> 2 hours, 85 -> 68 questions
Java Foundations (811)2.5 hours -> 2 hours, 75 -> 60 questions
Java EE 7 (900)110 minutes -> 2 hours

Fun fact, the 808 (OCA 8) has had the following number of questions over time
77
80
70
56

The weird number of questions (56) is likely because they tried hard to keep time per question exactly the same as before : (150/70)*56 = 120!
Same for 809

Go to www.oracle.com and click sign in.
Scroll down to Hardware and Software, click on Java
Scroll down to Resources then click on Learning, on Learn more icon, click on "get java certified"
You will now have a list of Java Certification Paths - Java EE and Java SE. Click on the relevant exam you would like to take. Click "buy exam".
Make sure you click on the correct "add cart" either the OCI and Technology Exams or the Oracle Cloud Exams (both valid for 6 months).
Add to cart, then view cart and checkout.
You have the option to check out as a guest or sign in.
Add the relevant address and payment details.

Good luck.

@joe, @chester. Awesome, exactly what I am wondering about at the moment.

I understand for 1Z0-808 the "OCI and Technology Exam" is what needs to be bought. Do you also, please, have any idea how far in the future are the first available exam dates? "Days / weeks / months ahead" is all I need.

I am all set and would like to go for it rather sooner than later.

Thank you, loving this community ;-). Ondra

^^^
Just to add info here for anyone interested in the future.
1) Yes, the "OCI and Technology Exam" is the one to buy to take 1Z0-808. Bought it and I am able to schedule exam takes no prob. Oracle's MyLearn page is quite confusing at the moment, they seem to be working on it though.
2) There is plenty of available dates for the OCAJP already next week, so all good :-).

Does the new format of Oracle Exam Attempt has similar local centers like Pearson VUE had, no information on that or not clear enough hence asking, like right now in my 30 mile radius area of the City town I live there are 5-6 Pearson VUE centers where one can take exams. Does Oracle Exam attempts have similar network where one can take exams at exam center ?

It sounds like they still use PearsonVUE from the website and just do the payment themselves. Waiting on someone who bought the exam this month to confirm though.

Hi,

I recently bought the voucher according to all the above instructions.  I am wanting to write the 1Z0-808 exam. On PearsonVUE English version of this exam is not available. I can only write this exam through oracle and that too only through online proctor. I knew that writing material is not allowed for online proctors but looks like they are also not providing any notepad or anything of that sort to use during the exam (I asked this to the oracle representative on live chat and he said no notepad and asked me to raise a ticket). I raised a ticket to confirm this information and get more information but that is what it looks like so far. I did not schedule the exam yet but hoping I will get all the information I need before I can schedule it.

If anyone has taken this or a related exam could you please confirm the information about the notepad? I always used pen and paper to draw objects, solve loop problems, etc. so thinking of writing this exam without any of that is posing a big hindrance to me. Let me know your views/experiences.

Has anyone being able to give an OCA/OCP after the updated Oracle Exam Attempts change went into place?

I have purchased an Oracle Attempt  voucher and in my oracle mylearn exam it shows as  - exam voucher valid for aa OCI exam, but I am not able to get  to a point

1>  to select OCJP 808 specifically as my exam to be attempted.
2> Any place where I can go to a onsite/exam center near my zip code , like a Pearson VUE type to go in person and give the exam.

Any insights and experience please share .

Thanks

Did you ask Oracle support? You should see 808 as an option.

I don't know of anyone who has taken it in person after the change so I don't know that is an option.

I took this exam after they made the changes. You can no longer take this exam through Pearson or anything like that. It is offered only through Oracle and only online. No in-person.

Its been now 2 months I try to click th expand section for the Review exam topics
section on the oracle website

https://education.oracle.com/java-se-8-programmer-i/pexam_1Z0-808

and also same I tried for the

https://education.oracle.com/java-se-8-programmer-ii/pexam_1Z0-809

both sections the Review Exam topics section does not open when you try the plus icon.

This section will open for any other Java exam section with similar information.

Just worried have they changed any of the Exam topics apart from the timing, and I have been trying to open that section for more than 2 months now I am seeing the same result, the page just freezes and you have to close the window.

That's so interesting that it won't open. I took 808 before they changed the pattern and after they changed the pattern. I failed the first exam but the second time I scored 92%. The syllabus is the same. Only the number of questions, passing score, and time have changed.

Finally was able to schedule an exam for myself on the Oracle Cert acct. but seems Its online from home/office only.. Now seems we cant use any erasable board pen etc to solve while giving the exams, this was available to me at my previous certifications I gave at Pearson VUE  centers.

Does anyone have an idea how to go around these > OCA and OCP both 808 AND 809 Will have ,many Looping and Lambda , or exception related or logic related questions where the dry board pen is necessary,  else you will be needing to mentally compile and answer the questions? any suggestions, advice  or experiences ?

Someone posted they were allowed to use paper since there is no online whiteboard. That sounds bizarre to me, but worth asking!

I know this is an old thread, but I am taking my OCA Java 8 Exam on Tuesday and am wondering if we can use paper and pen for tracing as well. Anyone know?

I passed 829 4 days ago and online proctor allowed me to use paper and pen. You can ask them via chat just before you start the exam if you can use paper and pen for calculations ...
