hi,
I've posted the same topic on javaranch a month back. when I start the server I get the following warning :

"this function is websphere specific and is only supported on the IBM 5.0 JRE"

As a result, my publishing fails....

I'm sure all my projects are using jdk 1.5 . The last time I had this issue, I had to re-install RAD, and in less than a month, I face the same issue...

Any help is appreciated.

TIA,
vinitha simon

Hi Vinitha,

To try to help you, please try to answer those questions:
What is the version of the WAS that you want to start?
There is other JVM besides the IBM 5.0 JVM, installed in the machine?
Is RAD configured to use then?
Is the WAS configured to use the same JVM used for RAD, or it is configured to use other JVM?

Regards,

Marc,
I am impressed with all your certifications. I've answered your questions. coming to think of it, I think the previous time I faced this issue, it was immediately after using eclipse...again, this time is also after using eclipse.... there maybe a conflict. If you could tell me what I should be double-checking... it would be great!!

What is the version of the WAS that you want to start?

Websphere Server 6.1

There is other JVM besides the IBM 5.0 JVM, installed in the machine?
I do have another instance of eclipse installed in this machine. I also have JDK 5 installed. But, I've checked the properties to ensure RAD is using jre 5

Is RAD configured to use then?
yes, it is.
Is the WAS configured to use the same JVM used for RAD, or it is configured to use other JVM?
WAS is configured to use the same JVM used for RAD.

TIA,
vinitha simon

I do not think that the answer to the last question will be correct. If you are facing an issue after using Eclipse (which version & which JDK does it use?), It will be because some of the settings has changed. Check JAVA_HOME in your system. Its not a good idea to have both eclipse and RAD in the same system using different JDKs. It tends to cause problems since RAD is developed on the Eclipse platform.

The below statements seem contradictory:

So when exactly do you get this message? When the server starts up, or when you try to publish an appication? If you're not getting this message when the publication fails, what message do you get? Please post the exact error message along with the first 15 lines or so of the stack trace if there is one.

Also, do you get this message with every application or only certain ones?

Merrill,
For the first few times, I get the mwssage, when I start RAD, but after a while, I started getting this message as soon as I start the server. My server tris to publish, but I get a modal box with the following message.

"Publishing Failed"

The console has the following :

I've tried, Add/Remove Programs, removing the .ear file.... I'm quite lost at how to proceed.

Thanks,
Vinitha

Joe,
I've removed all the environment variables I'd set for eclipse. Should that still be an issue ?

I've seen a problem similar to this. Here's the scenario. See if it might fit for you:

* I created a Workspace in RAD, developed some projects, and deployed them to the server.

* I decided the whole workspace was messed up so I just deleted it without un-deploying the projects.

* When I opened up a new workspace and deployed projects, the old projects were "stuck", meaning they were still trying to deploy to the App Server, but since they weren't in my current workspace, I couldn't un-deploy them. If there were deployment errors in the projects, they would keep being displayed every time the server started.

The solution I found was to create a project with the exact same name in my current workspace, deploy it, and then un-deploy it. The project didn't need to have anything in it, it just had to exist and be deployed.

If this scenario applies to you, great. If not, I'm afraid I don't know what the problem might be.

Merrill,
thanks for all the help...but I guess it really doesn't work !! I've just re-installed RAD, that was faster than breaking my head trying to figure out a solution!

Hi Everyone I'm new at the ranch, well to the point.

I had the same problem as Merrill Higginson, so after trying a few things this worked for me: first go to ...runtimes\base_v61\profiles\AppSrv01\temp\Sidharta-PCNode01\server1 and delete all the files referent to your .ear and.

Also edit the file ...runtimes\base_v61\profiles\AppSrv01\config\cells\Sidharta-PCNode01Cell\nodes\Sidharta-PCNode01\serverindex.xml and remove the lines regarding your .ear file.

This work for me I hope it's useful to the Ranch.
