I recd an email today

6 runs to be added to Sachin's 194
By Savita Choudhary
MULTAN, March 31, 2004
As strange as this may sound, ICC has decided to award Tendulkar 6 additional runs for his first innings knock of 194 not out. This comes after the Indian team appealed to the ICC match referee Ranjan Madagulle that a four and a couple of runs that were awarded as leg byes actually came off the bat of Sachin Tendulkar. The match referee after consultation with the two umpires Simon Taufel of Australia and David Shepard of England, and the Pakistani captain Inzamam Ul Haq, has decided to award Tendulkar with 6 runs. The 6 runs came in one over when Tendulkar glanced Shabbir Ahmed in the 96th over of Indian innings for a four of the second ball. He followed it up with a couple of runs on the fifth ball. These runs were awarded leg byes by umpire David Shepard. Accordingly, ICC has decided to change Shabbir Ahmed's bowling figures as well.Press 'ctrl+a' to see authenticity of this mail from ICC........

well to see in detail that what Sachin has lost by missing out 200:
Number of Career runs --> 6 (not much)
Number of centuries --> Same 33
Nmber of Double Centuries --> 1
(and the end of his career it will only be 1 less)
But the most important thing I guess is the record of back to back double centuries in 2 test match. (Feat which a very few batsman has achieved)
But he already has so many records that this one won't make much of a difference.
So njoy !!!

Read Kapil Dev's column in TOI
Would the declaration have come if Ganguly was batting on 196?

Yuck! a bunch of whiners (including Tendulkar)
didn't expect such a public display of disappointment from him though
He really shouldn't care about personal records at this point in his career...

Do you tihnk he displayed his disappointment publicly? I am surprised.
Infact I appreciated the way he handled the situation.

So Sachin plays for personal records?
You reminded me of a dialogue sequence from a movie Spiderman:
-----------------------------------------------------
The Green Goblin:
You and I are not so different.
Spider Man:
I am not like you, you are a murderer.
The Green Goblin:
Well, to each his own. I choose my path, you choose the way of the hero and they found you amusing for a while, the people of this city. But the one thing they love more than a hero is to see a hero fail, fall, die trying. In spite of everything you have done for them eventually they will hate you.

It is a matter of shame that he was not allowed to score 6 runs. More over it was 1st innings. May be Dravid did not want Tendulkar to equal his 4 200s.

Exactly what i feel He should not have given a statement that he was *surprised* at the decision. People would not have talked like this if we had taken a few wickets in the 16 overs. Sachin was informed twice before it was declared but he was batting tooooooooo slowly and wasting time. And then he says that he was *surprised* ! Great players like Kapil should think twice before writing such articles which just would cause discomfort.
Good to see that our team is looking above individual records and only keeping team interest in mind. Great Job Indian Team!

Dravid batted *very* slowly in most of his career days. I can give many instances where he had scored 2-3 runs batting for 50 balls.

Hmmm...strange you feel it that way. Let's look at the break-ups
50 Runs in 112 Balls
100 Runs in 209 Balls
150 Runs in 295 Balls
194 Runs in 348 Balls
Which means
112 balls for first 50 (SR: 44.64)
97 balls for next 50 (SR: 51.54)
86 balls for next 50 (SR: 58.13)
53 balls for next 44 (SR: 83.01)
A strike rate of 83+ is an excellent scoring rate. Probably it looked a bit low when compared aganist Yuvi's batting at that time.

A strike rate of 83+ is a good rate even on one-day standards.
Probably Shalu is watching too much of double-wicket cricket or the super-sixes tournaments

Yeah as u guys point out it was not *toooooo slow* for a test match. But at that time, it was necessary for him to near his century a bit faster as the team wanted to declare and had informed him about that.

Ya shal ban is right, this comes under too slow, when u already have 675 runs piled up and not just a 100 or 200 runs

Thats a valid point ... everyone can agree with this and wonder why this point didn't came into Sachin's mind ... No point in having a basman in the side who :
- Never won matches for team (*like Viv richards/Steve Waugh)
- Never stayed in the crease till the last run was scored or for full 50 overs
- and now, batting slow for personnal records.
I guess he should be dropped from the team for the next two matches !!!

Dropping Sachin after he scored 194, and doing an all round show so that india could grab a historic win, can anyone imagine this...... Thank God Varun isn't one of the selectors, else he would have been beaten black and blue by every cricket fan he meets for dropping sachin

I saw that match, and only once a message was passed to the batsmen, not twice. Probably, he was informed about the declaration for the first time in the tea break. But I don't think the captain would have said anything so conclusive at the tea break. At best he would have told that, "expect for the declartion to come in another 10-15 overs".
And regarding the message which was passed to the ground, here is a snippet from Cricinfo (Ball-by-Ball Commentary)
-----------------------------------------------------
End of over 161 (7 runs) India 673/4
Shoaib Akhtar 32-4-119-0 - Main Pavilion End
Yuvraj Singh 57* (61b 8x4) SR Tendulkar 194* (348b 21x4)
Powar comes in with drinks and message from the captain
161.1 Imran Farhat to Yuvraj Singh, no run
161.2 Imran Farhat to Yuvraj Singh, no run, played straight to the short
third man fielder
161.3 Imran Farhat to Yuvraj Singh, two runs, tossed up outside the off
stump, Yuvraj sweeps and gets a top edge down to the deep fine leg
region
161.4 Imran Farhat to Yuvraj Singh, no run, driven straight to the cover
fielder
161.5 Imran Farhat to Yuvraj Singh, OUT: gone! tossed up outside the off
stump, driven back to the bowler, easy catch, soft dismissal,
Imran Farhat strikes
India 675/5, Partnership of 110
Yuvraj Singh c & b Imran Farhat 59 (66b 8x4 0x6)
SR Tendulkar 194* (348b 21x4) Imran Farhat 6.5-0-31-1
surprise! surprise! Dravid declares the innings and the players
walk back
-----------------------------------------------------
It very well shows, how many balls Sachin faced between the message on declaration and the actual declaration

The team success should never be dependent on a single person. i too admire Sachin for his talent. i just dont like the way the declaration is being hyped thats all. Its a historic win it should not be damped by a trivial issue. The Indian team is playing well. Hope they continue the same way!

Hyped by the media to run their business, thats it.
(poor Sachin who just said "He took declaration by surprise" !!!)
Had he opened his mouth properly or if had used "harsh words" ...
career of the so called "Walls" would have been scrood (by media atleast).
Anyways, lets continue with the victory celebration. No point in ruining over the stuff which can't be change.
