Julio Cesar Marques wrote:And there is nobody talking about NetBeans IDE. Will be it replaced by JDeveloper?

..wont be surprised if this happens!!Anyways as far as IDEs are concerned Eclipse will still be open source and hence will top the list.

..i think Oracle has lot to think about for the next 6-8 months than wondering how to take of the Sun certification holders. So we will have to wait.

jeff mutonho wrote:I'd booked to do part 1 of SCEA at the end of May . Should I wait now to hear what Oracle plans to do with certification?
What would you do

..you can drop a mail to SDN.I am sure they will help you better.

Overall its too early to even predict anything.Anyone who uses anything which was invented or initiated by SUN should be concerned now. Oracle is a aggressive company and would definitely take steps to position itself as the market leader in the Technology space. So next 6-12 months would be interesting for all the SUN followers.

This is just for the Java Followers :

Oracle might use Java and rest of the JEE components to strengthen its Middleware offerings. So even if it locks down JDK, the language would still thrive, although it might lose some of its charm.Open Source business model might change/cease to exist. In which case Oracle will have to address a large community or may be some one else comes up with something!!Also lets not forget there are still big players contributing to Open Source.Anyone from SAP please speak up!! I know for sure that not only does SAP endorse Java as a language but it supports the Open Source Business Model as well.

The problem is it's only "a very good IDE", it's unlike Eclipse, Eclipse is a platform, not just IDE, IBM can generate much income from their Eclipse-based products.
I don't understand Sun invested in NetBeans for what, I mean Sun is a business company they should think about income.

Netbeans is also a platform, not just an IDE, see The NetBeans Platform.

Well, the IDE wars will be interesting as Oracle are big contributors to Eclipse, as well as having JDeveloper. I wouldn't be surprised if they combined all the best bits from all into JDeveloper. However, Oracle are savvy enough to know that the OpenSource community is way too strong and influencial to totally kill of things like Eclipse and MySQL, they would loose a big chunk of market popularity (and perhaps future commercial business). With a lot of Tech companies these days success can be measured not by the size of the budget, but the contribution to OpenSource, look at Google for example.

I was reading alot of threads and posts regarding the latest news regarding Oracle buying Sun Microsystems, and the fear for the future of Java ... etc. and I got this thought.

What if Oracle has something new in mind, I mean 99% of Java development is web based and enterprise applications, and 99.9% of them are applications that communicate with the database. so here is the deal, what if Oracle has in mind to modify the Java language to make access to the database even easier , what if you will be able to write PL/SQL using Java syntax (or a modified java systax) ???

add to this a trasparent EJB like layer, caching, security, and other stuff all sitting between Java and the DB ??

I don't know. But I think that if the Java language OO will get some core modifications making it ODBO = Object & DataBase Oriented language - I just invented the ODBO acronym- will be really great

Thanks for point that out, sorry to make confusion.

Nevertheless the problem still is the same, it's true that NetBeans is *also* a platform, but Eclipse is an open source community, see http://www.eclipse.org/org/. "NetBeans" is not an open source community, and the focus of NetBeans and Eclipse are very different, NetBeans main focus is IDE, which I think it's the problem.

netbeans.org homepage and eclipse.org homepage are also very different, on NetBeans homepage the very first word is "IDE", but for eclipse.org, right now "IDE" is the last item.

I don't want to mention capabilities, architecture and design of NetBeans Platform vs Eclipse Platform here because it doesn't relate to this topic.

Regarding Eclipse, no need to worry as it is being supported by the largest IT company in the world, which has potential to acquire Oracle in future .

Yes it is, see the NetBeans license page - it's licensed under the well-known GPL open source license.

No it's not . I don't talk about license.
Please look at http://www.eclipse.org/org/.

I found the answer. "Sun Microsystems" is a line of solar systems that are small enough to fit on the head of a pin. They are manufactured by a company called "Java." The Oracle was a computer revered as a deity by the inhabitants of Yonada.

Carry on.

And what about MySql and OpenOffice?
Are they tiny meteorites encircling this solar system?
And IBM is the black hole trying to engulf all this into one giant galaxy.
