Hi,
I'm trying to set up a datasource (not a datastore as I said in my previous post ) in tomcat 3.2, but don't know how to do it !
(I didn't find any information on the subject in the manual of Tomcat)
Could someone please explain me how to do it (or point me to a site which explains it).
FYI, the Database used is Sybase.
Thanx in advance,
Dasch

JDataStore is a java-based embedded database that Borland wrote and bundles with their development environments. (Delphi, C++ and Java)

What you are wanting is a tutorial on using JDBC with servlets. Plenty of resources on the web, and on Sun's website for this sort of thing.

If you need further help, ask a more specific question (in the JDBC forum)

SORRY !!!
I didn't mean a datastore BUT a DATASOURCE
(sorry for the typo
a datasource is a convenient way to connect to a database. With orion, you can configure one in the file datasource.xml
Is it possible with Tomcat 3.2 ?
Thanx in advance,
Dasch
PS: I don't think that question fits in the JDBC forum because it's a question about the config of Tomcat (not about JDBC)...

This got much easier with Tomcat 4.x, is there a possibility you can upgrade?

http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.0-doc/jndi-resources-howto.html

If not, then I found something in the DTD for web.xml in Tomcat 3.2 (web-app_2_2.dtd)

<!--
The web-app element is the root of the deployment descriptor for
a web application
-->
<!ELEMENT web-app (icon?, display-name?, description?, distributable?,
context-param*, servlet*, servlet-mapping*, session-config?,
mime-mapping*, welcome-file-list?, error-page*, taglib*,
resource-ref*, security-constraint*, login-config?, security-role*,
env-entry*, ejb-ref*)>

Checking the resource-ref element...

<!--
The resource-ref element contains a declaration of a Web
Application's reference to an external resource.
-->
<!ELEMENT resource-ref (description?, res-ref-name, res-type, res-auth)>

And back to the Tomcat 4.0 docs, it looks like you can match up the two versions.

http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.0-doc/config/context.html#Resource%20Definitions

Thanx a lot for all those information
I'll try to upgrade to Tomcat 4.0 (if my Jbuilder 5.0 want to do it... )
