about tomcat

I have tomcat installed on machine on port 8080.
i wany to access tomcat webserver installed on another machine .Is it possible ?

Only when that machine is in your network !
If so, then simple URL like, http://machine-ip:port-no/ ll work !

I think web server which serves web pages like html pages !

If its not so, then whats the difference between web container and web server ?

No. Webserver contains webcontainer.often webserver can understand Http ,then it will send the request to webcontainer where the jsp,servlet stay.

but some vender specific webcontainer act like webserver ,example tomcat.

Tomcat is a web server and a servlet container. I generally suggest to avoid the term "web container" since it is not widely used; you're likely to confuse people by using it.

The port on which the tomcat running , you can find it from server.xml (generally , its 8080) , from 'conf' directory !
