It looks like you didn't install EJB3.

Basically if you just download JBoss AS 4.0.5GA as a zip file and unzip it, it does not have EJB3 built in. You would then have to download the EJB3 zip file and copy a bunch of jars and sars and stuff.

Or, better use the Web Install on the download page at jboss.org. In that there is a wizard so you can select JBoss AS with EJB3, and you get everything you need all set up nicely for you without a bunch of steps.

Or, even better, if you are allowed, download the brand new JBoss 4.2.GA release, all with everything Java EE 5.
