Being about 75% of the way getting ready for the java programmer exam, now I have a chance to attend a week conference or training class. It's down to two classes:
1. Objects & Patterns: 5 days of Java Design <http://www.bruceeckel.com/JavaDesignPatternsIdioms.html>;
2. Java[tm] Technology Fast Track Program I (JF-341) <https://ebcentral3.sun.com/SES/USA/courses/JF-341.html>;
Any comments about Sun classes or Bruce Eckel's classes?
The first class looks better for learning to design properly. The Sun class looks like an intense workshop on learning java.
Maybe these two can't be compared that easily...

That's a tough one.
Well, I have a friend who took a class from Bruce and he thought it was very good.
If you think you are ready, or almost ready, for the SCJP then the Java class may not be as helpful. Try a few of the mock exams that you can find here and if you do well then maybe you don't need the Sun class.
I think the bottom line is that you take the class that sounds most interesting.
Just an opinion...
