QTP query - advice needed

Hi..

I am new to QTP (Quick Test Professional). And trying to figure out how to automate testing using the same.

I tried googling, but couldnt find QTP tutorial with examples. Can anybody help me with this.

Besides, I read the help file (accompanying QTP)..and I understood the basic concepts, but the help file focuses on automating Web-Application. Ours is not web-application however..its a stand alone application..something like Applet, with buttons, dropdwons, and visually similar to a Visual Basic project...

I am not sure, but somehow QTP is not able to identify pop up windows(or windows other than the main application window). It always stops running saying - object not found error..

Any help appreciated.

QTP is built especially with web apps in mind... WinRunner in included and bundled with QTP which may be better for your app.

Have you tested WR with your app?

Hi..

I havent tested the application but the previous Testing team at work did test the application using WinRunner. (So, I am not aware of pros-cons of using WinRunner over QTP)..

On this release build, testing focus is on QTP... Thats what Testing Manager wants us to do. Use QTP to automate (not all) but atleast important time consuming test cases.
