From the yahoo groups list:
"I am still surprised that, as we near the 10th, anniversary of JUnit
(later this year) ..."

Does anyone know how to find out the original date? We celebrated Java turning 10 at work a few years ago. Observing JUnit's birthday seems like a good opportunity to promote it extra

I found a reference to February 28 1998, but that was for documentation, not the project itself.

The story goes that it was largely written on an airline flight that Gamma and Beck took together in 1997 -- but I don't know a date.

Ernest,
That actually helps a lot. It's a nice story and it gives me enough information to get close enough to the answer. (Adding the word "flight" to my search made this possible.)

From Martin Fowler's website:

It was still unknown outside the Smalltalk community, so it's fair to give JUnit the credit for spreading the idea more. JUnit was born on a flight from Zurich to the 1997 OOPSLA in Atlanta. Kent was flying with Erich Gamma, and what else were two geeks to do on a long flight but program?

OOPSLA was October 5-9, 1997. So it's a good bet this flight was in the first few days of October. That's close enough to an actual date to observe it.

Isn't the Internet wonderful? I never would have found this out at a library!

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Is this a tiny ad?
