David,
I wish I could have earned this title 6 months back. The situation in the US is not very promising as of now.
However, based on earlier qualification/experience on Mainframes and the present Java knowledge, I am getting some opportunities in S-E Asia and Europe (infact as many as 6 potential opportunities) for web-enabling Mainframe applications.
I have worked on a credit card application package - VisionPLUS developed by
Paysys Inc., US.This application is written in COBOL and has more than 8 million lines of structured code!.As Paysys has sold this application in more than 50 countries to an impressive list of customers, I can see web-enabling business coming of age very soon.
However, the problem is you don't find developers who have combination of Mainframes (plus domain expertise) and Java Enterprise Technologies. That's the reason this business is taking some time to catch up.
I have been focussing on getting a break on such a project; so far haven't had much luck.I see this changing, if any of those 6 offers clicks

P.S.: Would like to add that whenever I went for an interview, the employers were pretty impressed by the Certification title I have earned. However, they keep telling me that they would certainly have very good openings for me once the market picks up!
The bottom line is we have to have some patience and look at the prospects in the coming year. This year is great to learn as much as you can.My gut feeling is anyone making the most of this time, would really benefit whenever the market picks up.
