I am in the process of evaluating TogetherJ Vs Rational Rose for our Object Oriented Analysis and Design (using UML) and development in Java. Does anyone have any useful tips for me?
I would appreciate if you can also tell me the differences between together control center and solo version.
has anyone done such an evaluation before?
thanks

The round trip engineering in Rational Rose is pretty poor. Whereas in Together it's good. You could write your code and (and compile too ) and have the OO diagrams updated on the fly...and vice versa.

I've just got a chance to use Together 5.X . Heh, it's far more superior than Rational. Rational is a great modeling tool. I have used it for a year or so.....but Rational sure lack the platform to deploy (like for EJB), compilation/debugging, backward/forward engineering, creating scenario diagrams for any methods, Patterns modelling, etc. Together has it all!!!
PS: Hmmm, I suppose now I know why Together eats up more memory than Rational.

I recommend looking at www.togethercommunity.com for any questions you have about Together Control Center (TCC) or Together Solo (TS).
The differences between the two:
TCC: Full development platform that offers Audits and Metrics, EJB and Web application deployment, editable documentation templates, XML editor, XML structure diagram(allows the reverse engineering of DTDs), EJB patterns, Database support, ERD generation from datasources, and EJB skeletons or CMP EJBs.
TS: Reverse engineering, Full UML modeling, IDE, Documentation generation and Debugger.
TCC has everything that TS has. I work for TogetherSoft. So if anyone has any questions please feel free to contact me.
Thanks
Ken
