Hi all,

I am trying to install websphere studio 5.1(trail version)from ibm site.
I downloaded the required files (i.e images as they say).While downloading some other files(images) are optional, only 2 are required.so I didnt download the optional ones because of space restriction.
Now I am unable to install since it says some of the optional images are missing which are actually not mandatory to download.Also in readme file it asks to point the temp env variable to a temporary folder where all required files are downloaded.I have done this also..somehow doesnt seem to work.What is the problem here??

I am trying to buy HFSJ. I want to know which is the best place to buy it ?Which edition I am supposed to buy and what is the latest edition avalaible?Where can I get this book for cheap.I dont mind even if its used.Apart from amazon are there any more sites whcich are reliable to buy such books?

which is the best way to buy the Head First Servlets and JSP book?Actual price is slightly expensive though i know its worth,is there any resource or site where i could buy it for cheap.I am ok even if its used.Let me know the best option.

Hi,

I am new to struts. I am confused how to download struts.They have the prequisite of downloading jdk,tomcat,xml parser.. etc.I have only jdk1.4
I went to download tomcat, but there are so many files . I got totally confused.Can somebody give me step by step links and info for downloading

Hi All,

I will have my work permit starting from 1st of oct.My problem is I have a break of more than a yr.Just last week I have cleared my SCJP1.4.
I want to start searching now so that I can start working from 1st oct.My employer is telling me not to show breaks in my resume .I am worried about
this also since it would be tough for me to land a job with break. Now how do I go about my job search??
I have experience in java,jsp,javascript,javabeans and bit of weblogic.What extra skills I should possess??Do I need to learn about some servers ,heard about Eclipse a lot in thse forums.Also what are the famous IDE's I should know about?Any interview tips also greatly appreciated.Please advice me..

I have passed SCJP 1.4 with 75%. I didnt score that well but I was happy to pass....I want to thank all the ranchers here for their support and of course kathy and bert for their excellent book.

Now I am planning to give one more certification,but I am not sure which to take.I have work experience in Java,JSP,servlets ,javascript.
Based on my background, can anybody suggest which is the best certification for me to take up....

This compiles and fine giving o/p:

Here the method go ()is private and final,Then howc ome in DerivedBase class it is overidden to be public and nonfinal??Its not overidiing and also not overloading..

Now In the above example,why the reference type of argument is seem and not reference type of Object on which method is invoked..
Please explain,In overloading when we check refernce type of argument and when reference type of object on which method is invoke..

Hi,

I just compiled and checked if there is a return statement as first statement in finally block it gives compiler error saying unreachable statement which is fine .If I put a return statement in try block it works fine.What happens if I put return statement in catch block?Is finally block still executed??
Like for Eg:
try{ //code }
catch(){ return; }
finally{ //code }

I have gone through kathy sierra book,I know the types of inner and top level classes but the concept I didnt get is why cant we declare static variable inside inner class.Still not clear on this..
