Hi,
Do you guys know of site(s) providing salary survey data for the Indian IT industry? I am aware of dataquest conducting a survey but can you please suggest more?

Hi Swati,
Thanks for your valuable lowdown. I met with the HR team and they are offering 11.5 CTC with a whopping 37% going to the variable part. In fact, my monthly gross at infy will be lesser than what I am getting currently!!! I will try to negotiate for 14 L CTC.

Regarding the onsite offers, I have seen much of onsite and one of my condition is to not send me to onsite. They've agreed for this readily. Not sure what I stand to gain with this offer if they are not willing to budge with my 14 k demand.

Really dis-illusioned at this whole thing.

Hi,
I got thru the infy interview for a PM position and am about to meet the HR team. I have 8.3 years experience. What, in your opinion, is the industry standard CTC that I should ask for?

I am currently drawing 9.1 lacs pa inmy current company. Please advice.

hmmm...we are doing it because we want to know what exactly is the "industry standard salary" that our companies promise us as paying..to find out if the salary is really on-par with the industry or below is one major objective in sharing the same...

But I thought that's a universal trait and not specifically indian...

Point no 3, as mentioned by Victor, is most definitely the difficult one. (Another side issue is, most of my colleagues are getting "inspired" by my offer and they are quite serious now with their job search.)

Setting recognition and promotion aside, HCL is not a paymaster for sure and that causes a mass exodus now.

Anyway, as Mr.Reddy mentioned, I will try to get an assurance on my promotion and if it comes sooner, ie. as early as the first quarter of next year, I will probably stay back. AFA money is concerned, I am not exactly struggling to make ends meet with the current salary. So, its okay.

I think I am letting the heart win this time.

You can try CTS. A better bet for onsite chances and a decent pay at onsite as well..one of my friend is a living proof to this...

Also, as another poster pointed very rightly, if you stay at onsite for more than 2 years, you will be forgotten at offshore and your promotions / recognition / growth will take a severe beating...agreed you earn some dollars, but the former aspects hold more weight....Onsite chances are insidious to your career...

For the above point, I am a living proof...

Bottom line is, if you want to go abroad dont look for India based MNCs, rather take only the indian companies into account....

I wish to thank you all for responding. I have discussed this with my HCL senior management and they appear genuinely shocked. It was a very difficult situation to handle as they were hinting that I have betrayed them. I am being promised a reasonable pay hike (around 10%) and a PM promotion some time next year.

But the IBM brand is too tempting and the effort I spent in clearing their energy sapping interview sessions make me feel like an idiot unable to take a decision now. I am still fighting a fierce mental battle, caught between these two.

How did you guys handle a job change mentally? Basically, how did you convince yourself about a change when your current position is not too bad?

Hi friends,
This is my first post to the forum and I am in need of some critical advice from you all.

I have around 7 years of experience in Java/J2ee and I got an offer from IBM bangalore (Project Lead) recently. I am currently working in HCL, Chennai (as PL). Following are some of the points that makes me think hard before accepting this IBM offer.

1)Though IBM is a brand name, I am hearing that the growth rate is not too high there. Probably, I'll stay as a PL for the next 3 years regardless of performance at IBM. But HCL will make me a PM by middle of next year.

2) The salary promised at IBM is 8.9 lacs pa. And I am currently getting 6.2 lacs at HCL. Although this is a strong enough reason to opt for IBM, I really cant think salary as the only item to make career decisions. Am I right in thinking so? Or am I impractical?

3)I am recognized as a star performer at HCL in the recent annual appraisal and I will be put under the "fast track" career growth process. Can anyone let me know how IBM recognizes their employees performances?

Any comments highly appreciated.

Shankar
