Hi all. Im writing a server for a multiplayer game. Information is sent in packets of 256 bytes. The first 4 bytes of each packet is an integer number representing the ID of this packet. When a packet is send a local copy is stored in a hashmap based on the integer ID. When the server recieves a packet out of sequence it requests a resend of the packet its been expecting which is taken from the hashmap and resent.

The problem is that for certain numbers the id comes out wrong and I cant work out why.

One example is for 144. The id is 144, it gets put into the byte array and stored int the hashmap and send. The local copy in the hashmap and the message sent to the server come out as 63. Does anyone have any idea why it might do this?

thanks
Brendan
You could also look into itext if you want. I dont know if its very good for importing pdf..but is great for exporting

I havent done any AI yet but what I would do is when its the computers turn it weighs all its options so it says "ok...so I can move piece 5 ..to these places.." and then individually works out the gain it would get from each of those moves and goes with the best results.

if you wanted to be smart then you could consider the move after the one youre planning for..and make the AI think about how YOU can move based on where he moves to. Come up with some kind of weighting formula, maybe taking into account how desperate the AI is to finish quickly.

I dont know what j2ee is but it seems like the Lithtech development system (made NOLF 1&2 and Alien vs Predator games) or like Genesis 3d. Im game!

I opened the licence agreement to get a look but it displayed it in a font made entirely of peoples heads... err oh dear.

My guess this is built on top of Java3d with some of classes already made for objects or something. handy!

I managed to track down the windows version which I'll email. the linux/sun versions are available form the comm api site.

The windows version hasnt been supported by sun since they had a little spat with microsoft from what Ive heard, so dont expect tech support with it, although there are lots of tutorials available. The one I have comes with great doccumentation and examples.

Hi, Im making a chat client, and Im connecting for text chat using basic sockets. A user enters an IP and 2 identical clients handshake with Socket and ServerSocket. It works perfectly (more or less ) in my home network between computers, but outside my router it cant connect to other clients.

Ive tried with several different people in the UK, US and HK, lol. Im giving them my routers IP and my router is forwarding the right port to my computer (or at least I told it to).

Ive tried both entering their IP and them entering my IP and nothing works. it doesnt come back with "UnknownHost" but "IOException". I could understand maybe if couldnt connect to them if they hadnt configured their router, but it should at least let them connect to me, I would have thought.

The only reason I can think that this might happen is if my ISP doesnt support Socket creation which ive heard can happen. Can anyone offer any help or advice on where to go from here, maybe using a different comm method?

thanks
Brendan

******** EDIT
Further to the above information the IOException gives a message saying that the socket is closed. This doesnt make sense..as at one end is a serversocket just listening and at the other end is a socket setting up. argh. well I guess it could be the socket failing to set up and me tryng to use it.

******** 2nd EDIT
Ive been searching other places for a solution to this problem and I was wondering could this be happening because Im not trying to go through a server, i.e Im connecting 2 clients, not going through some server, instead of forwarding through a server?

******** 3rd EDIT
Ive managed to establish a connection but only using an open port like port 80, and the client listening at that port sees nothing.

Hi, Im trying to make sure a server ap can handle arabic characters. it basicly takes an emailed input and does some calculations, a mesage in the email is stored in a string and is then output to a pdf using itext. I don know much about fonts and charsets so I wouldnt know where to start in checking this. The only thing I can think of is changing the language on the server ap somehow.

any thoughts?
thanks

This is similar to a problem Im having at the minute. I dont know too much about fonts and charsets but at the minute my server program takes an email and extracts some text from it. The text is stored in a string and then exported to a PDF. It works for english. yay. Now I need it to be able to handle arabic letters.

Should this work if a font that can handle arabic is used? or do I need to do some kind of character set conversion if the test is arabic?

thanks

Hi, Im trying to read from a com port, which shouldnt be too hard. I look up some old articles about it and they said it would be easy using javax.comm...the problem is I cant seem to find the library for download for windows. it only has linux and solaris.

Is there another way to read from a com port in windows?

Dammit. Im trying to do pretty much the same thing, read from a com port, and Im having trouble. javax.comm is proving difficult to find.
