Concepts of client and server side scripting can not allow you to use variables from client side on the server side. The question is the JSP is processing on the server side and AFTER that the result of it work (usually HTML and JavaScript) is sending to client and browser interpret it. So JSP doesn't use the variable of javascript. You ougth to learn the concepts of this interaction.
But you may send the javascript variable to ANOTHER JSP (fe with anchor or form) as parameter and process it in JSP.

JSP
Your problem is very strange. Symbols which you are get in the value is the memory link of your String object. Default when you output your string? the string value is outputing (method toString() is calling). May be you have another mistake in your code.
Try to call method toString() actually, f.e. <%=yourString.toString()%>, but it's equal to <%=yourString%> if "yourString" has a String type.

JSP
You may use this code:
if( sysDate.after((new GregorianCalendar(recpDateYY,recpDateMM,recpDateDD)).getTime()) ){
ErrVect.addElement(" Receipt Date should not Exceed Current Date.");
}

I can propose a next solution a your problem:
you may include a small applet(or another object) in your page. In handler of onUnload body event you call the method of applet(browser and OS must support LiveConnect).Applet connects with server and you may identify that user closing browser.
Applet always has time to connect with server.
I think it isn't very good solution, but it's working!

You may create the form in the html page with hidden fields and fill this with your data and call form.submit() JavaScript function. This method doesn't concern to jsp.

If I right understand you question, you want to click the html button and send email.
If you have all information to send on client side you may simply submit form (action="mailto:sss@server" method = post).
If you need send message with information after servlet proccessing, you may use JavaMail library or Jakarta taglib (for jsp).

You must use rs.getBytes("clobfield") and after that you may use the byte array and cast it to String or bitmap.

You cann't send "attribute" in request by submit button of html form. You can send only "parameters".
The way to solve your problem - it is send nessasary "parameters" to one servlet in which you set given parameters to request "attribute" and forward to your main servlet.

It so easy to help you.
You must use request.getParameter("value") and it will be work independently in what window you call you servlet.
