Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the reply. I am just about to start things with Flex and haven't got Flex 3 in Action yet. So for now what I understand is that I will be needing Flex SDK, and an editor.

Do you know of any open source IDE for Flex?

Otherwise I may have to purchase Flex Builder, which is expensive for me right now.

Also, the book is on the way as I have ordered it. But please forgive me if my questions are too naive.

Do I need to download/purchase any other application/package/middleware?

Regards,
Sunil

I am looking forward to learn Flex for a new project. Can anyone help me with the links to start the basics? Any name of books will also be helpful. Also, please recommend something that is either opensource or free to use as I on a student budget.

Thanks a lot.

I'm saving up my post points to trade in for the "Ranch Hand" title. Cheers

Hi All,

Just saw this thread about the respectability of Brainbench exams. I believe that these exams from Brainbench should be used only for personal satisfaction and to test your knowledge when you are new to any technology in which Brainbench is offering the exams. As far as the value addition of these exams is conseerned, there is nothing better than an exam like SCJD. We should have more exams like SCJD in other technologies as well.
Can any one let me know about any famous Game Development associations or forums??

Hi all,

I have developed my own version of Puyo Puyo game as a part of an assignment. But i do not know swing or any graphics techniques to display everything. I have my logic in the form of a 2D array. In the array i have -1 to represent empty space on the board and 0-3 to represent four diff. colors. I have developed the logic for rotating, moving left, right etc. But i need to display the output using java swing (Its a part of the requirement).

Can any one help me with this??

I have tried to use JPanel and was able to display a few buttons (to start or stop the game) and an empty space in the middle of the frame. But i am not able to display colored circles in the panel. If my approach is incorrect then please let me know.

Awaiting your responses...

Hi All,

I am just about to start with J2ME ( )and i need some help with it.

What i need are the names of som of the good books to start with J2ME. The books should have enough content to make someone with only knowledge of Java, Servlets and JSP's to understand J2ME properly and also to understand what all things can be done with J2ME.

Moreover, after understanding J2ME i may desire to go for J2ME certification. So it will be greate, if someone can tell me the name of any good book for SCMAD (I am asking for this because understanding something is different than giving certification for it... )

Thanks in advance

Hi All,

I have been learning Servlets and JSPs from Kathy Sierra and I find it to be good enough for a beginner. But I still feel that I need something else that can provide me a little more example practical applications for practice. Something that can give you a real life scenario and ask you to build it. Then it will recommend you the best possible solution for it...
Don't mind, but this is the way I like it...

I know that this new book is specifically a certification guide, but does it have something similar to what I am looking for???

Cheers,
Sunil
Hi Ilja,

Thanks for your kind reply. I actuall have a few documents on this but on going through all of them, i was a bit confused as all of them differed from eachother by a large extent. Though i know that every author has his/her own style and understanding of the topic, but the differences were quite large. I will list the resources and you tell me which on is the best to begin with. Currently all i know about XP is that it is one of the methods that come under the domian of Agile Methodologies and it involves a lot of cutomer interaction with the main focus as Working Software Over Comprehensive Documentation.

The resources available to me are:

1) Extreme Programming Explained - Kent Beck. Did an overview of it.
2) Extreme Programming Explored - William Wake. Did an overview of it. I was not comfortable with it much.
3) eXtreme_Programming - Unknown Author. Did an overview of it and liked it a lot.
4) JAVA XP Cookbook - Eric M. Burke and Brian M. Coyner. Have not seen it yet.
5) Testing XP - Lisa Crispin and Tip House. Have not seen it yet.

If you have any idea about it then please guide me in this.

Hi all,
Can any one please tell me about some good resources for getting familiar with theoretical concepts of XP?
Just the links and names of the papers/books will be enough. However the more it is, the better it is...
