I think it would not be ideal to compare with Pune.The difference will be less and sometimes sal in Kolkata might be more.Ideally, compared to Bangalore or Mumbai it is very poor.
Also the Cost of Living is less in Kolkata, though prices are going up.

I think it will be better in US.
Btw, how much u are getting in US?

I think u can ask for anywhere between 7-10 LPA depending on ur expertise and exposure.

Go for the Certification even if it takes time, it might help in long run..
