If it takes that long to complete request, better use a queue for the requests and process each one as they complete.

I hope you would be coding a Servlet to authenticate the user.
Once the user is authenticated the user bean has to be saved to 'Session' so that other pages can use it for preferences and other stuff.

So coming to the point if the user clicks 'Back' button, same URL would be called there by directing the request to the same Servlet.

In the Servlet check if session's user attribute is not null then forward to 'error page' else authenticate the user and preserve it in the session.

Hope this helps.
I assume two JVMs to be two servers.

You can deploy WAR, EAR, EJB-jars independently.

All that you need is to give corresponding server parameters to "InitialContext". Subsequently, you can lookup and use the enterprise modules.
The lamest use of calling an Session Bean (deployed onto - JBoss) from stand alone client

weblogic.xml can be used to configure the following:

1. HttpClusterServlet - Load balancer in a cluster.
2. WAR file to be deployed in a cluster for session replication.
