So it’s been over 10 years - life gets int he way sometimes!

Started the cattle drive years ago. Enjoyed it loads. Made some progress, and then life got in the way and now years later I’m wanting to get back and putting my 51 year old brain back to the challenge.

Can anyone help me start again?

I hope you’re all keeping safe.

I’m Nick White. Number 6 on the list. Last accessed March 2008! Would love to be able to  start again and get access to what I’ve done. Please let me know what I have to do!

Do you have it now?

I have just attempted to send in my second assignment and have had an email indicating that my email has been blocked as spam.

I sent the email to nitpick at javaranch dot com, and it appears to be redirected to Marilyn's private address. The mailer notification is from comcast.

What should I do?

Regards

Marilyn

Thank-you.

This is a long shot.....

I don't have copies of my solutions due to hard drive failure - and a rubbish backup regime! Do you have them?

Also - I thought I had completed OOP, but the 'Wall of fame' only has me down with one mousehead - can you confirm where I was at?

Would it be a good idea to restart, considering I don't have my past solutions?

I appreciate your time here Marilyn

Regards

It has been a while, but about a year ago I completed my second mousehead. Unfortunately, due to life situations, I didn't continue the Cattle Drive journey.

Can I restart? Do I have to start from scratch, or can I start where I left off?

I appreciate your time, and if this isn't the forum for this discussion/request, I apologise - but it has been too long..............

Regards

I am using the Study guide by Sierra & Bates, and to my disappointment the CD provided needs Windows!!!

I use Linux - is there any way to get hold of the MasterExam?

Laxi Hi!

Have you checked out the API?

String API

Or.

Regex

This could help you in your quest.

Good luck.

You don't need the associate exam to qualify for the SCJP exam. April 12 is coming up really soon though. Study hard, Nick.

You know what? I booked the exam as something to focus on as it really makes me concentrate on what I need to do. Problem is.... I get a lot of the test questions wrong. The biggest problem I have, is with the layout of the code in the questions. We are so focused on style that anything nasty throws me out - I have found that I have to write out the code as it is expected here, and that helps.

Hopefully 3 hours will be enough - I think it will, but more than that, I hope that I can get enough into my old head in time Three weeks tomorrow.

Currently I do about 3 or 4 hours study a day (perhaps I am not so busy at work as I should be!) - I then strangely find myself dreaming about it as well (now that is worrying ).

Anyway - pass or fail I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks for all your support on this.

By the way, if Pete reads this I meant open source projects to work on, rather than getting code etc.

Why not be really brave a go for a linux distro..

Now that is fun!

And guess what? All the software is free!

If you play games or use an ipod or something else that requires windows forget this advice though.

whatever you choose, make sure you patch it, anti-virus it, and firewall it - because we have two laptops at home - one runs XP(needs all the above) the other Ubuntu(needs none of the above ), and guess which one just keeps on running without slowing down?

No matter how you treat an XP box after a few months it just seems slower.

whatever, they both run the sdk jdk stuff - I personally prefer the editor I use in linux, but I guess it is what you are used to.

One final thing.... I am not anti-microsoft (it has earned me a living), I just prefer linux now.

I have noticed that 15 people have all four!

HallOfFame

But.....

At least one is still doing the assignments! - a very significant person at that!

Is the hall of fame correct? I am above people with two as well!!!

And so you should swagger!

Hope to follow real soon!

By the way, I have booked my scjp for the 12th April, but don't tell anyone, as I have SO much to do!

I have all the assignments lined up for Marilyn & Pauline - I just seem to take 4 or 5 goes each time. It is so hard when I haven't done anything like it before - and I rely on searching the forums for ideas and then study the API's and then just try my best, submit it and wait and see what Marilyn says!!!

I am studying K&B book, working through assignments - and looking for Open source stuff, but haven't found anything yet.....oh! and my THIRD son will be 1 year old next Monday 26th......oh! and my wife still works nights as an Emergency Medical Technician (ambulance - if not sure), and I have to look after the three boys!......oh! I apparently also have a full time job!

But isn't that the fun thing about all of this? Everyone here gives up their time to help people like me and you who just enjoy the learning?

So, I thank everyone at javaranch for their help and support, and congratulate everyone who gets this all done!

Well done SAM, KATRINA.

But also thanks to Marilyn & Pauline as well!
