For me also it was not working(I had tomcat 4.1 i unstalled that one and installed tomcat 6...it is working now but still I m not able to run index.html like this :

http://localhost:8080/ROOT/index.html

but this :
http://localhost:8080 is working for same index.html

I don't know whether this normal behavior or some error it is giving.

using this command :

javac -classpath "C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\apache-tomcat-6.0.13\lib\servlet-api.jar":classes:. -d classes src\com\NameSelect.java

Errors I am getting like this:

e.g. :

src\com\NameSelect.java:3: package javax.servlet does not exist
import javax.servlet.*;

As far as I know everything is correct in path. I have installed new tomcat and servlet-api.jar is there in lib.

Please suggest a solution.

I have created one application folder as

C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 4.1\webapps\oneapp

and saved one html file in it like this:

C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 4.1\webapps\oneapp\form1.html

and tried running tomcat like this:

http://localhost:8080/oneapp/form1.html

What I m getting is :

[[[
HTTP Status 404 - /Beer/form.html

type Status report

message /Beer/form.html

description The requested resource (/Beer/form.html) is not available.
Apache Tomcat/4.1.34

]]]

when i m saving same form1.html as index.html in ROOT directory,it is working fine on running like this :

http://localhost:8080

Can somebody tell me why it is happening.

sorry for late reply.

after including quotes i was getting 5 errors:

One of them:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
F:\project1>javac -classpath "C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Tomcat
4.1/common/lib/servlet-api.jar" -d classes src/Ch1Servlet.java
src\Ch1Servlet.java:1: package javax.servlet does not exist
import javax.servlet.*;
^

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Then I changed sevlet-api.jar to servlet.jar(this one is ther ein lib directory) and now it is working

Thanks to all you people for replying.
