Hi,

Referring book SCJP 6 by K&B, on page 12 it has mentioned that "4 access controls but only 3 access modifiers, the 4th control level called default or package access. "

So my understanding is

1. Access control is public, private, protected, "default"
2. Access modifiers public, private, protected
3. Non-access modifiers strictfp, final and abstract

Am I correct ?

thanks & regards
parag

Hi Shailesh,

Thanks for your reply on abstract vs interface with very good example. But still not very clear, in your example of a car, what requirements make the difference that makes you abstract class or inerface ? For me it was looking same,

1, Certain about colour, engine, additional facilities
2. Not sure which car going to purchase

Can you elaborate on example please ?

thanks

Hi,

In Head First Java page 310, it has mentioned about dot game following

if user guesses matches
remove cell from array
if array is empty then
return "kill"
else
return "hit"
else use guesses matches then
return miss
end if

Array = 0, 1, 2
Values = 4,5,6

When cell "5" is hit, we make a smaller array list

Array = 0, 1
Values = 4,6

But something I had not understood,

if player gives guess 2, which is correct but if we make new array then how code will find it is correct guess ? pl clear my logic.

Hi,

I am new to Java and trying to learn java from Head First book chapter 5, In this book code has written to create simple dotcom game. Basically it is doing following

1. Create grid of simple array
2. Assign 3 continous locations in a array
3. Accept guess from user
4. If location allocated = guess then give message "hit" otherwise miss and accept another guess from prompt
4. If all locations = guesses then give message "kill". otherwise loop and accept guess from user.
...etc

In one of the places it is doing

int guess = Integer.parseInt(stringGuess);

I have not understood the purpose of converting string to numbers ?

My understanding is that it is accepting "guess" from prompt and which will be always integer, so to convert from strings to integer it requres parseInt.

Pl help me in my understandings.

thanks & regards
