Great to see you still working in the Java Eco-System!
Loved the SCJP6 book years ago.
Wish you all the best.
Hi Kathy and Jeanne,

thanks for your point of view regarding the forum choice. Your both view is comprehensible but I like the idea that the book is about "The Game Of Development". If I win the book, I'll check whether my idea endures.

Kind regards

Hi Kathy,

I first wondered why the promotion is held in the "Game Development" forum. I thought (without having read the book yet) there must be a another forum that fits better to place the promotion but could not find any. Is your book so special that it seems to be difficult to find the right place here? If you could freely choose a forum topic - what would it be? Maybe "The Game Of Deveoplment"?

Thanks for all your contributions.

Kind regards

I indeed changed the definitions (and even the layout) so that it fits to my needs (like Neal Ford says: "You can use our quadrants or create your own"). So my "Hold" is much more positive (green) like the original ToughtWorks one. But I see the point that it is a pitfall for misunderstanding and consider to change it in the future. Thanks for pointing this out!
Hello,

ThoughtWorks published a recent version of their Technology Radar these days and Neil Ford did some explanation on it with the recommendation to "Build Your Own Technology Radar".

So here is My Technology Radar: http://frvabe.blogspot.com/2013/06/my-technology-radar.html

I noticed that you have also an SO account. If you answer the question there I will give you the reputation points :-)

Hi,

I have an Android App which contains an external dependend jar library. This external library contains some png-bitmaps which I want to show on some ImageViews in my application.

Looking inside the apk file of my application I can find the images in a sub directory ("aq\img") as expected.

What is the best way to show an image (insight the classpath) on a ImageView.

I tried this

and this

but it did not work (I did not really expect it to be that simple). The image remains empty.

Thanks for help!

Hi,

you can first try to find a OSGi enabled version of the library. There are some repositories for that, e.g.

(1) http://www.springsource.com/repository
(2) http://repo.fusesource.com/

I found JDOM in (1).

If no OSGi enabed version exists, you have to "wrap" or "embed" the 3rd party jar.
You will find useful tools for that here:
http://wiki.ops4j.org/display/ops4j/Pax

especially:
http://www.ops4j.org/projects/pax/construct/
will be your friend.

Hi,

I want to limit the number of log files for a DailyRollingFileAppender. I search for a parameter like maxBackupIndex (in RollingFileAppender) but can not find one. Is there really no way to limit the number of log-Files?

What is the strategy to ensure that the (number) of log files do not "overrun". Delete them manually?

Thanks and best regards
Klaus
Oh my god!

I will

* never ever assert that I did every configuration well
* search for the deep black hole to sink
* thank you 1000 times for finding this mistake

Hi Herman,

I will post it :-)

After some more debugging (and logging) I am very sure, that all injection is done correctly and also the class to test (de.mycompany.myproject.dao.myDaoImpl) has a correct refence to the DataSource. So it must be some kind of classpath problem I cant figure out. The necessary DB2 Jar's are in the classpath, but apperently can not be found while establishing the connection.

I assume that ist is hard to comprehend the problem but any hint what to check is still welcome.

Thanks
Klaus
Hi All,

I have a problem writing a Spring-Unit-Test extending AbstractDependencyInjectionSpringContextTests.
The TestClass (Bean) includes a property of a bean that I want to test. Injection of that bean happens well.
The bean to test extends "SimpleJdbcDaoSupport". Every configuration (jdbcTemplate/datasource) is done well (in my opinion).

I want to test a database operation and the method invokation happens well. But than the following error occures:

This happens normally, when the jar with the db drivers are not in the classpath. But they are.

So, does anybody knows about a reason for this problem. Maybe using a Test Class which extends AbstractDependencyInjectionSpringContextTests does not inject all propertys needed in reference bean which I want to test (especially the jdbcTemplate property).

Any help is appreciated.

Best regards
Klaus

Hi,

better predefine the List in the bean-properties in faces-config.xml like:

and than code the List in Java like this (you also need of course a property "drink" for the selected value.

and in jsp

You don't need to create SelectItem-Objects in the List and also it seems that you are doing to much converting and wrong referencing (.drinks.drinks.toArray)in your code.

Hope this helps.

Klaus
