Hi
The "Session" is always per browser-window basis & if u close the browser window, then it's all over. No need to kill the session explicitly.
Can u explain what do u want to do with session?

In your Servlet code, use the "setMaxInactiveInterval(int seconds)" method of the "HttpSession" class to set the Session Timeout Value for your server. The Servlet API says :
public void setMaxInactiveInterval(int interval)
Specifies the time, in seconds, between client requests before the servlet container will invalidate this session. A negative time indicates the session should never timeout.
Parameters:
interval - An integer specifying the number of seconds

Xerces-j 1.4.x itself supports Schemas - sorry i didnt know that. A sample program i tried with Xerces-j 2.0.0 beta3 also gave the same problem.
The page http://www.apache.org/~edwingo/jaxp-faq.html says that :
Q: When I turn on validation, why do I fail to get any errors?
A: This is probably because you have not set an ErrorHandler. To get validation errors, three things must be true:
(1)The source document must be associated with a schema. For example, the source document contains a DOCTYPE declaration.
(2)Validation must be turned on.
(3)The application must set an ErrorHandler.
Often times, applications fail to perform the last item.
Any further improvements possible?

Senthil
I couldnt try any samples so far. Just see this page if it helps : http://xml.apache.org/xerces-j/schema.html

May be a bug.
If "http://xml.org/sax/features/validation"; is set, then the Xml document MUST specify a grammar. i.e. a Schema file is necessary. But if "http://apache.org/xml/features/validation/dynamic"; is set, then the Xml document is validated IF the grammar is specified.i.e. it depends on the Schema referral from Xml file.
Doesn't these two options appear complementary?
Hi Goundalkar
The parser has not yet been set for validation!!! The line 6 should read xmlDoc.validateOnParse="true". Otherwise it's ok.
Thanks for the answer,

Hi
It seems only Xerces-J2 can validate an Xml against a Schema.
May be bcos Schema is relatively a new Standard. Pls visit the site http://xml.apache.org/xerces2-j/index.html for Xerces-Java 2.0.0 beta3 download & samples.

Thanks Goundalkar.
I understood what u've explained nicely.

Hi
When defining a Schema file, we use namespaces like
<xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="url1" targetNamespace="url2" xmlns="url3"...>
What are those attributes "TargetNamespace", "DefaultNamespace", "SchemaNamespace" used normally in the above line? What do they mean to the validation of xml against the schema? How does a typical namespace declaration look like (in xsd file)? How to refer such schema from the xml file?
Pls explain with code.

Hi Goundalkar
It seems the behavior of IE5 or later is intentional - See : http://www.biglist.com/lists/xsl-list/archives/199903/msg00487.html
But what about the SAX parser in JAXP? Still no answers?
regards,
senthil
I also want an answer to this question. Also, when I test the SAX parser in JAXP, it did not report any errors when the XML doc is not in sync with DTD. So does it mean that SAX in JAXP is not a validating parser? Or is there anything else we need to know?
Any answers?

senthil
Hi
Is there any general mechanism to convert a large text file into a well formed xml file? I have company data in a text file with large no of data items, some repeated, some having attributes. To represent this in xml format, is there any preferred way available? any tools?
The task is essentially identifying the data in the text file & marking it up. Like searching for something & adding our tags to that value. Any help?
