It should compile just fine.
What is the error that you are getting?
You haven't mentioned the error details for anybody to solve your problem.

Ofcouse you can.
http://www.roseindia.net/jsp/simple-jsp-example/jsp-methods.shtml
But you cannot access implicit variables in it. You have to pass the variables to the method.

i never faced such situation. do it only if you have a very valid reason.I cant even think of a scenario where this might be useful.
If you are faced with such a situation, you better think over your logic again. You will face more problems in the long run.

JSP
Well, as of now we dont have a simple way like
<url-pattern-exclude>despisedUrl</url-pattern-exclude>
Though I would personally love to have it, since it happens to be a very common scenario.

Questions like these have been asked in the past.
You might want to read this.

You can try this approach

First write a listener that implements an HttpSessionListener
Implement the methods sessionCreated and sessionDestroyed, somewhat like this.

In jsp -> <% increment counter %>

In your servlet -> //check counter

hope this helps.
give it a try and let us know how it went.
