I'm planning to take one of the Oracle web services exams. That is either Oracle Certified Expert, Java EE 6 Web Services Developer or Oracle Certified Professional, Java EE 5 Web Services Developer
I'm not sure which one to take yet.

However, based on the information on the oracle pages:

http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=458&get_params=p_track_id:JEE6WSD and
http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=458&get_params=p_track_id:JEE5WSD

There's no requirement to take an Oracle specific course in order to take any of the two exams. Am I right in thinking this or is there something I'm missing?

Thanks

Hi All,

Got my results last Friday. Passed! Thanks guys for all your help. Roberto's data class got me off to a good start, Roel for answering those random questions. And all the other fellow ranchers of course

I would think all testing centers are running the same exam software

Yep! Indeed that should be the case. I just expected to find a lot more complaints about this when I searched the forum. So I started to think that it may differ by test center.

But it is weird that a score is given on this exam

Yea, tell me about it. It is even weirder the way the official at the testing center looks at you - thinking this person got 0%?

Anyways, I've submitted my assignment as well so it's the waiting game now. I hope to join the SCJD league soon

Thanks for your response.
Hi guys,

The same for me and I got the look too. So I believe this is a common thing.

What happens to everyone when the essay exam is taken i.e. does everyone get a 0% score until the assignment is graded? or is it just some test centers that score you 0% until assignment is graded?

Thanks

Hi guys,

Well done Tim. Did you email your assignment after taking the essay? I'm sitting for my essay exam this week and would like to know which one to do first i.e email assignment and then essay or essay exam first and then email assignment.

Thanks

Ah! I see. Thanks Roel, I'll try that out.

Hi guys,

Just thought I should test my program a couple more times before submitting and behold this ugly 'NoSuchObjectException' pops up sometimes when my client is trying to display the full set of rooms after connecting to the server. The randomness of this problem (in my case) is making it difficult for me to figure out. That is sometimes 'NoSuchObjectException' is thrown and sometimes clients connect to server and display rooms fine. I'd say the exception is thrown one out of every five tries. However not knowing the cause of this exception and hence how to reproduce it is making it difficult for me to solve.

So annoying. Thought I had this thing wrapped.

I have got a class with one static method for starting the RMI server. Snippets of the method are below

Ideas?

Thanks
@Roberto yea the instructions said 'database file' and not database zip. I just thought I should ask that question because the database was contained in a zipped folder when I downloaded it but I guess it makes more sense to include the database file.

About the instructions, I copied it from the web page into a word document and that's why I got confused about whether to include the Word document I've been reading it from. I'll just included it as plain text.
Hi All,

In what format should the database file be included in the submission package i.e shoud it be in zipped format (which is the way I downloaded it) or should it be in extracted format?

Secondly, I'm thinking of including the assignment instructions as a Microsoft word document (i.e. .docx)? Is there anything wrong with this?

Thanks
Olu

Thanks Roel. I think I'll settle for the simpler method i.e. the one you described above.

Cheers!
Hi guys,

My understanding/interpretation of the GUI requirements is similar to the approach explained by Roel. However after reading David's post Im somewhat confused. I think both interpretations are acceptable?

Thanks
Hi guys,

I want to use RMI for my network layer but justifying my choice is proving tricky. Personally, I want to use RMI because I havent used it before but I have used sockets before. However I believe I need to give a better reason. How did you guys justify your decision? Did you list the advantages and disadvantages of both and then choose one based on the requirements? Simplicity is obviously not a good reason for choosing RMI as far as I can see- the sockets solution (in Andrew's book for example) is as easy to understand as the RMI solution.
All,

So I guess if you downloaded the assignment before September 01, 2010 but submitted and did the essay in say October 2010. You'll get an Oracle certification right?

Thanks

...I must guarantee that the combination of setting this client-id and locking the record is executed as 1 atomic operation. I need 2 method calls on the Data instance to lock a method, you just need 1.

True.

Thanks
