Hi Alejandro

I'm not sure it you have the same sun instructions as myself, but the following was a criteria for the UI....

It must allow the user to search the data for all records, or for records where the name and/or location fields exactly match values specified by the user

So the only fields your are required to search on are name and location.

So if you have criteria{"Fred",null} then all contractors who name begins with fred in all location will be returned.

If you have criteria{null,"Smallville"} then all contractors in location smallville will be returned.

Hope this helps
Hi guys

I must apologise about the confusing post. I should probably just said that my problem was aligning components (JLabel, JTextField, JButton) in a panel which uses GridBagLayout.

Michael you were right about the GridBagConstraints weightx and weighty. That fixed the problem for me. But i've since changed the layout to a GroupLayout. Seems to be the more sensible least till i meet another problem.

Many thanks for your help guys

Hi all. I should begin by letting you know that i am fairly new to swing, so please forgive my lack of knowledge.

Here's my problem. Im trying to create a GUI with multiple panels. I've created a root panel or contentPanel for all other panel to be placed onto. At the top of this panel, occupying 1/3 of the screen I have created a header panel, which itself will contain two more panels, search and book. Within these two panels (search and book) my components are centred. However i would like the components to flow from the top of the panel. I'm using a GridBagLayout for these two panels(search and book) and i tried to use the setAnchor(GridBagConstraints.PAGE_START) method to align the components with no joy.

Any ideas or helpful comments would be greatly appreciated

I see no reason why the search should be case sensitive. My logic is that if fred will match freddy, then surely fred should match Fred. I feel that a case insensitive search tool would be more user friendly

Sorry the bad link was my fault. Put a full stop at the end of the URL.

The code here works, but i needed to create a stub using the rmic tool. Yet the documentation clearly states that this should only be necessary for pre-5.0 VMs. My current build is 1.6.0

Thanks again

Hi Everybody!!

Im currently in the process of the SCJD project and began working on the RMI network server portion of the project. I'm new to RMI, so began with a simple tutorial, found here I just spent the past 2 hours try to start the RMI server, but continually got the following error.

java.rmi.ServerException: RemoteException occurred in server thread; nested exception is:
java.rmi.UnmarshalException: error unmarshalling arguments; nested exception is:

The solution in the end was to create a server_stub using RMIC. However in the documentation (URL above) the following statement can be found

"Note: As of the J2SE 5.0 release, stub classes for
remote objects no longer need to be pregenerated using the
rmic stub compiler, unless the remote object needs
to support clients running in pre-5.0 VMs. If your application
needs to support such clients, you will need to generate stub
classes for the remote objects used in the application and deploy
those stub classes for clients to download."

Yet i had to create the stub using rmic. Am i missing something? Should i call it a night.

My java version is

java version "1.6.0_05"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_05-b13)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 10.0-b19, mixed mode, sharing)

Many thanks in advance
