I know you can raise sql exceptions in Java from Oracle but is it possible to raise stored procedure exceptions from Oracle 8i?
Bill,
I'm not using a custom serializer for the User object. The object from the client is supposed to replace the one on the server. The modify the Name object occurs after a instance of the User object is instanitiated on the client side.

Thanks for your help Mike, I guess my problem is a little deeper. I'm actually using SOAP to instaniate the User object on the server side and pass the new object to the client, then based on information from the client I was trying to edit the Name object of the User on the server side and then pass the resulting new User object back to the client.

I am having a problem passing an object through soap from the client and modifying the object's member variables on the server and then passing the object back to the client.
I have a "User" object with a "Name" object in it. When I try to modify the Name object's member variables and pass those results back to the client, none of the changes take effect.
The User objects are instantiated on the server side and stored in a hashtable and when I modify the member variables of Name, I pass back the User object to the client.
I seem to have no problem changing a "userid" variable that is stored within the User object but when I try to edit the Name object, it does not reflect the changes back on the client side.
Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks,

Thanks for your replies, Mike this is the code I use to instantiate the user
User user = new User("bqpublic@email.com", "password", new Name("first", "middle", "last"), new Address());
and I call the method like this:
user.getWholeName(); //changed the method name due to your suggestion, thanks
and I get an output of a single null.
Thanks

Hello,
I have the following code:

When I do instaniate a user object and try to call getFirstName() for that object my result always comes back null. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
Ed
