My point is that it will help pharmacists determine the type of the drug since the commercial name is not known and therefore help pharmacists find the available alternatives with the same chemical structure assuming that the app is connected to a trusted drug information source like an international drug database for instance.

I never thought of it that way. Anyways, I will try to get more details and I will write here again. Thanks Roger

I am basically stuck at two things:
First, I am not sure which Android API I should use.
Second, I don't know how would I organize the information coming from the Internet.

Thank you again Roger. I am not from the US. Basically I am targeting markets in Yemen, my country, where there are no such systems.

Thank you Roger. I will use the camera to identify a string of characters which is basically the commercial name of the drug. I want to make use of the available information on the Internet. For example, a medical prescription with a list of drug names may sometimes contain names of drugs that are unknown to the pharmacist. This is where my application comes in handy. The pharmacist would point the camera to the name of the drug, then all information like manufacturer, drug family, chemical structure and so on can appear on the screen. I still have no idea how would I organize the information coming from the Internet, but, this is what I have in mind at the moment. What do you guys think ?

I am trying to develop an Android application based on the Optical Reader technology. The application concept is to use the optical reader to identify different drug names and to display drug details like manufacturer , chemical structure,..etc. The pharmacist would point the camera towards the name of the drug then he would get the details he wants. What interfaces or classes should i use to implement my concept? What do I need specifically to implement my app.Thank you
