I tried using Apache Wink and it seems to be pretty simple - I was able to run a simple program within minutes.

How long did you prepare for the certification?

50 to 60 hours.

we will get the update on https://www.certmanager.net/sun_assignment/assignment.html right ...

You are correct. The results would bbe published in this url - http://www.certmanager.net/sun_assignment/
Finally I got my SCEA results
I have finally completed my SCEA certification:

The marks have been distributed as follows:

Test: Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for Java 2 Platform Enterprise Edition Technology Part II (310-061)
Date Taken: 2007-09-16 12:28:26.030
Registration Number: p31syd54d6
Site: iig37
Grade: P
Score: 90
Comment: This report shows the total points that could have been awarded in each section and the actual amount of points you were awarded. This information is provided in order to give you feedback on your relative strengths on a section basis. The maximum number of points you could have received is 100, minimum to pass is 70. Class Diagram (44 maximum) .......................... 39 Component Diagram (44 maximum) ...................... 39 Sequence/Colloboration Diagrams (12 maximum) ........ 12

My deliverable consisted of a design document and an RTM (Requirement traceability matrix) that mapped with the requirements.

I read through the requirements lot of time and i even asked my friend who is working in airlines to understand the basic airlines term. I should say I documented my design well in the design including all my design decisions, assumptions. My RTM din miss any requirement and to the section in the design document. Actually I am wondering how i might have missed the 5 points in class and sequence diagram, but could not have any clue.

I used Star UML for drawing the UML diagrams as it was very easy.
I took my part 2 exam on Aug 28 and part 3 exam on Aug 30 - and got my results on 16 Sept

Suggestions to users of the forum:
----------------------------------
* Follow your own analysis and design, do not compare your diagram based on the no. of class and sequence diagram others have delivered.
There is a fun in designing and do not miss that.
* For part 3 - if you had really done the assignment, then you would definitely clearly pass part 3.
* Draw the entity domain model, then the component diagram and then the sequence diagram.
If you do not do the entity domain model properly and jump to sequence diagram, it would lead to frustration as there would be lot of rework. Otherwise, generating component diagram and sequence diagram would be fun.
* I took lot of break in preparing for this certification. In fact I completed level 1 in Sept 2006 and completed level 2 in Sept 2007. But actively I worked during the last 2 to 3 months. Spend more hours per day and try to complete it early and do not procrastinate.

Suggestion to Sun:
------------------
* The exam results reporting mechanism is not that convincing. It would be great if Sun could atleast send us a mail when the grading is over. We had to keep on checking the online url to see if our grades have come or not.
* Would be great if Sun could change the assignment requirement as it is revolving for years. it would be great if you could have atleast 5 assignments in hand and give it to users randomly. I assume atleast the part 3 questions are being asked randomly and is not repeating.
* Since this is a longest certification, it would be great if Sun could send some T-shirts, Caps with Sun-SCEA logo along with the certification. (if you are planning to do so after seeing this, please start with me..
hehehe )

Following are the materials used as part of SCEA 2.
Well I din read much books for part 2 as I did for SCEA, but recapped most of the things i used for part 1.
Some of them which were very helpful were Head first Design patterns, www.corej2eepatterns.com, Head First EJB, Distilled UML and some of the online UML tutorials.

Of all the certifications, I like SCEA the most and I am happy I got it.
I think I should take a break sit back and enjoy.

And above all, thanks for this wonderful forum and group of enthusiastic people which has helped me in in this certification.
Javaranch forum rocks !!!
Hi - we are currently using weblogic 9 and would like to move to weblogic 10..

We are currently using JSF, Spring, iBatis, Pega (workflow engine) in our application

Has any one tried weblogic 10, and faced any issues.

Hi.. I am looking forward for a good site which explains architecting tips and templates for the same.

Let me know if you are aware of those
Hi - I am currently evaluating building AJAX functionalitie over our applicaiton. I tried DOJO HTML toolkit, but on the server side we need to create the XML manually (I hope there are no Java API to create those XMLs).

I am also evaluating server side AJAXable components like A4J (Ajax4JSF), RCFaces, ICEFaces etc.,

Which one do you suggest and why ??? (Client side dhtml toolkits or Server side AJAXable components). I feel that the ajax components should be loosely coupled from the web frameworks. We tried ICEFaces, but it extends all components of JSF.

Have anyone evaluated different AJAX components earlier. Any suggestions on this would be great.

Hi - I am trying to evaluate an AJAXable component for JSF.

I went through JSFMatrix.net and found the differences between AJAXable components within JSF. While these explain the differences in feature wise, it does not explain which is the best one to use, atleast from maintainability perspective.

ICEFaces is good, but it extends every single component of JSF and I dont feel very good about that. Have anyone tried AJAX4JSF or RCFaces. There are some third party client side html toolkit also available like DOJO.

Please let me know your suggestions as which one is the best both feature wise and technology wise from ease of development and maintenance perspective.

Hi-

1. If I wish to submit the assignment today, can I take up the SCEA - 3 exam tomorrow. What are the things that I should concentrate for SCEA-3.

2. I have no clue or what type of questions that will be asked on SCEA-3. what type of questions that will be asked on SCEA-3.
I am using Star UML and its easy to use.

SINCE some marks are allotted to the UML compliance, I hope all the tools mentioned are fully compliant..

I have the a question:
Some tool might give some feature which is not present in actual UML specs. If we use those, I am afraid if we would be losing marks.

Which tool is the best tool and is safe to use for the exam.
